This 40-hour program is designed for law enforcement,
medical professionals, attorneys and advocates
who are interested in developing their roles within a
multidisciplinary team. The training will focus on a patientcentered multidisciplinary team approach to care for adult
and adolescent patients of sexual violence.
A registered nurse who has been specially trained
to provide comprehensive care to the sexual assault
patient, demonstrates competency in conducting a
medical/forensic exam, and has the training to be an
expert witness.

Clinical Requirements
Nurses must complete a clinical requirement for
certification with their community after course attendance.
This is the responsibility of each individual practitioner. The
direct patient care clinical component should complement
the classroom educational experience. It provides the
registered nurse with the opportunity to apply information
and skills obtained during class to a clinical experience,
and should be completed in a time frame that ensures
competency and maximum retention of knowledge and
skills learned in class.

and the program educator for a forensic nurse examiner
program in Macomb County. In her current positions, she
provides services that include caring for living patients of
sexual assault, domestic violence, child abuse, elder abuse,
trauma, and neglect.
Her passion for this specialty area of nursing practice shines
through her various commitments. She is an active member
of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, is a level
III certified medical investigator, a certified forensic nurse,
and certified forensic consultant for the American College
of Forensic Examiners International. Renae has earned
the distinction of Diplomat with the American Board of
Forensic Nurses (DABFN), and American Board of Forensic
Examiners (DABFE). She is a respected and sought-after
presenter, having shared her forensic nursing expertise with
national and international audiences. In addition to being an
invited guest speaker at many educational events around
the world, Renae is a published author in Forensic Nursing.
Renae’s nursing roots are deep­—she has extensive
experience as an emergency room/trauma nurse. Renae
will also draw from her legal consulting experiences to
provide an interesting and important perspective to these
discussions. This dynamic and engaging presentation is one
