HIT Camp is packed with many hands-on activities highlighting a variety of HIT careers. There is also
plenty of time scheduled for social events, including team-building activities, time in the community and
outdoor adventures. Please be flexible; activities may change due to weather, scheduling of staff, or other
unforseen circumstances!
Note: SUNY Oswego reserves the right to change the camp schedule as needed.
The combination of programs may not be exactly as listed here. An up-to-date camp schedule will be
available at the commencement of camp.

HIT Camp (short for Health Information Technology)
is a resident summer camp for Central New York students entering
10th, 11th, and 12th grades who are interested in health care, computers and technology.
This summer, explore health careers while making new friends and enjoying a college
campus experience! HIT Camp offers a week of hands-on activities and classes to
introduce students to a variety of career opportunities in the HIT field.
At HIT Camp you will:
• Explore a variety of HIT careers through interactive workshops
• Learn from health professionals and college instructors
• Identify the skills needed for careers in HIT
• Discover existing science and research projects
and participate in related activities

The Rural Health Network of Oswego County is a consortium of over thirty health and human service providers, who are committed to collaborating to improve the quality, affordability, and availability of health care services in Oswego County by
focusing key resources to address specific health care priorities and strengthen our local health care system.

What does a
HIT Professional do?
Health information technology refers to the
framework used to manage health information,
and the exchange of health information in a
digital format.
Professionals who work in health IT are
focused on the technical side of managing
health information, working with software
and hardware used to manage and store
patient data.
How much does HIT Camp cost?
The fee for camp is $350 per student and includes all meals, housing and activities for the five
days of camp. Scholarships are available based on need.
How are students selected?
How do I apply
for HIT Camp?
Students must submit the following:
• Application Form
• Short Answer Form
• Recommendation Form from a teacher
or guidance counselor.

How many students
will be accepted?
To keep activities hands-on
and give personalized
instruction, space is limited to
16 students.
A selection committee will review all applications. Acceptance
notifications will be sent out in late May. Students not accepted
into camp will be notified in late May
Where will I stay?
HIT Camp students will stay in a secure residence hall on
the SUNY Oswego campus, and will be accompanied by
camp staff at all times. Students are required to abide by all
college housing rules. (Note: Activities will be held at SUNY
Oswego as well as at other affiliated clinical sites in the Oswego
area. Transportation will be provided to all off-campus sites.)
Upon acceptance into HIT Camp, students will receive
registration forms that are required to be completed before
the student is officially registered for camp. The full camp
fee is due at the time of online registration and is payable
by credit card.
