Welcome to Halls of Residence (HOR) (Hostels) at DA-IICT

Welcome to Halls of Residence (Hostels)
DA-IICT, Gandhinagar.
Dear Student,
The following is the information related to your accommodation at the hostels.
There are two Halls of Residence, namely, Hall of Residence - Men (HOR-Men) and Hall of Residence - Ladies
(HOR-Ladies). Prof. Binita Desai and Prof. Asim Banerjee are the wardens of HOR-Ladies and HOR-Men,
respectively.
The HOR-Men has eight wings and each wing has three floors, with about 20 twin-sharing rooms on each floor.
These wings are called as A, B, C, D, E, F, G and H wings. In total about 900 students can stay; two boys per room.
The HOR-Ladies has two wings, called as J and K wings, with 87 and 73 twin-sharing rooms respectively. In addition
there are other temporary facilities on campus to accommodate the girl students. There are common bathrooms and
toilets on each floor and water coolers on alternate floors.
Each room is furnished with two tables, two chairs, two book-cum-clothes shelves, two tube lights, two Internet ports,
two sets of plug-in points for computers and two beds. Mattresses, pillows, bed sheets/bedcovers, blankets etc are
to be arranged by the students. For a few days before and after the registration day, a temporary shop will be
set up at HOR-Men by vendors selling mattresses, pillows, bed sheets etc. There is a convenience store in
HOR-Men where you can buy stationery, bathroom and toilet related items, including mosquito repellents and coils.
The Institute has a Medical Centre at HOR-Men. Two visiting doctors visit the centre every day and the students can
consult them without any charge. Hot water (using solar panels during winter), Laundry (dhobis come once in a
week to collect and deliver clothes) and TV Rooms with Dish TV are available at both halls of residence. There is an
STD booth in the Men’s HOR. We do not have conventional mess system at the halls of residence. Instead, we have
a cafeteria, where you get standard menu, and five Food Court stalls for à la carte menu and students pay and order
food.
The allotment of rooms for the fresh B.Tech. students will be made by the Wardens. No requests for change of
rooms will be entertained until the end of the first year. You are requested to reach the Institute between 09.00
hrs and 18.00 hrs, on any weekday (except Institute holidays) and go to the Hostel Supervisor's office at the HORMen to collect your room key. You should look up the hostel website (http://hostel.daiict.ac.in) from time to time to
get yourself familiar with the rules and regulations that you need to follow during your stay in the halls of residence at
DA-IICT.
All details regarding emergency medical procedures are listed on the hostel bulletin board. Detailed information on
hostel rules are also posted both on the board and on the intranet hostel website. Student medical insurance for any
hospitalization will be applicable with effect from the first week of September 2014. You may contact either of the
wardens for any emergency situation. Parents are not allowed to stay in the hostel rooms meant for the
students. There are limited guest rooms in both hostels available only for medical emergency where parents
can stay with prior booking and payment by students. These guest rooms are not available in the first two
weeks of the semester.
We ask you NOT to bring computers (desktop or laptops) during the first year for the following reasons:
 Students (in the first year) use their personal computers primarily for gaming, watching movies and surfing
internet and not for academic work.
 For all academic work, computer resources in the laboratories are sufficient.
Please be assured that ragging is strictly forbidden at DA-IICT.
Welcome and wish you a pleasant stay at DA-IICT!
