This sounds familiar…
I almost quit many times during my few first
years in HR because I keep getting passed over…
I am stuck ?!#
I am unsure of my next move… Why am I still not promoted?
I am still doing the same task in HR for many years?
What is the ONE thing that I can do today that will help move my HR
career to the next level more quickly

Evolution of HR… Are we ready
"Aside from problem solving, HR executives
need to challenge the status quo and
bring new perspectives to the thinking
of people in the organization.“
"It isn't good enough to be technically
competent or to be a good manager over an
existing situation. You have to offer
something for the future.“

My Journey…My story : Growing & Branding
4. If you are a HR Generalist stretch yourself by accepting a specialist
assignment
5. If you are a Specialist , step out of your comfort zone & move into a
generalist role
6. Volunteering for task force assignments within HR or volunteer
assignments outside your organization
7. You could decide that you’re going to market yourself & showcase
your HR Talents more proactively inside your current organization rather
than sitting back hoping that someday someone will tap on your shoulder

My Journey…My story: Networking & Social
Media savy
8. Take steps to increase you’re your size of networks & begin reaching
out to existing contacts to prevent this relationship from going stale. Take
steps to increase the number of HR headhunters that know you by
name
9. Broaden your involvement in outside HR association & business
network. Be with the influencers who could potentially provide you with
your next HR job
10. Make sure your LINKEDIN profile is up to date so that
you are more “FINDABLE” online.
• Very cognizant on your online brand … (be conscious of what you
say online and if there is a credible message and avoid being too
extreme)
• Set up something similar to Google Alerts & be strategic with
Social Media Social Media is easy and let it TELL you who to
follow

My Journey…My story: Being Bold
11. Bury your ego & work harder to convince your boss into your
absolute best career advocate by looking for opportunities to help him/
her with their priorities & build a reputation as being indispensable in
their eyes
12. Take uncomfortable steps to lose your “lone ranger” persona &
begin surrounding yourself with HR folks that are playing a bigger game
that you are…..in order to move your OWN game upwards

10
My Journey…My story:
Making a Difference
13. Invest time in Reading & Research
• Who can you share this with
• It does not matter how much you READ unless you do
something with it.
• Streamline your information and formulate your pitch and be
up on current trends
14. SIMPLICITY… in everything that we do. Reduce bureaucracy and
create more empowerment
15. You should find a quiet spot, take some time & figure out what REALLY
makes you distinctive in the HR career market place. Then come up
with a clear answer the question “ Why should any organization
promote or hire you rather than any other “results oriented” HR
leaders out there.”
