IDF has founded in 1993 by a group of young social development professionals; Integrated
Development Foundation (IDF) is a Patna-based NGO advocating for social change, with its
field offices in 7 districts of Bihar & Jharkhand. It has worked for two decades to raise
aspirations and improve everyday life for the most marginalized and excluded rural populations.
IDF mission is to ensure better health, security, and well-being for the poorest and most
deprived members of rural communities.
O ur vision is an egalitarian society in which all community members can realize their right
to a life of quality and dignity. Our key strategies for creating sustainable rural development are
using a rights-based approach and leveraging women's empowerment. IDF projects are
supported by UN agencies, national and international funders, and state governments. IDF is

Since inception IDF prioritized rural area as geographic universe for managing health,
Nutrition and sanitation projects, where target beneficiaries are from schedule caste and other
lower backward castes that are marginalized. The target groups include women, newborn,
children, adolescent and youth, Schedule Caste, Newly Married Couple, 0-6 year’s child (for
immunization).
IDF demonstrate high prowess to manage more than 50 relevant projects with support of 30
funding organizations ranging from International government to UN agencies. Extension,
expansion and continual fund support to the organization beyond normal project life cycle
evident organizational credibility of strategic management of gamut of projects cycle to achieve
result with timely and quality reporting and documentation of success story.
It has good experience in development of training syllabi and curricula. It has developed
training modules on different issues, Flip charts, IEC material development on Kala-Azar, RCH,
Growth monitoring & Nutrition, Immunization, flood preparedness, PRI, RTI, personal Hygiene
and sanitation, Reproductive Health, watershed and gender.

IDF has proven its capacity by successfully implementing projects, which are extensive by
covering huge geographical coverage with quality result. The organization has able to
implement projects in scale by covering whole district for example -1-IDF in collaboration with
Global Sanitation Fund, implementing sanitation project in each Panchayats/villages of entire
district of Seraikela and example-2-covering each and every villages/tola in 10 blocks of
Samastipur district under PCI/BMGF supported Parivartan (community mobilization around
women & child health issues) project.
IDF has strong community base in form of developed community institutions like child club,
youth club, farmers club, disaster mitigation committee and women self help groups (SHGs).
IDF has developed more than 1700 women SHGs in all its intervening villages in state. Who
are empowered, organized and able to take informed decisions for their family, communities
and for themselves i.e. women & gender issues. It provides a strong platform to overriding the
developmental issues they felt important and needy and that could ensure or lead to achieve
better quality of life.
Organizational achievements in social development

IDF is member of the state government's Grant Aid Committee, which is responsible for
assessing and recommending grant proposals from Bihar NGOs to the central government.

Chairperson Zila Parishad in Palamu District under NRHM Programme.

IDF is working in Jharkhand from 1997 when it was united Bihar and started with a long project
supported by Unicef on women empowerment in Palamu and Garhwa districts and in 2001
expanded its work in 2 more districts Ranchi and Chaibasa on livelihoods and empowerment
projects focusing to women and children. In 2010 with the support from Plan India started
working on Child protection and with support from Global Sanitation Fund working on Sanitation
issues in Seraikela.

population is 518000, whereas direct population, which are directly targeted through deferent

IDF is leading a state-wide network of NGOs –DRR Mission – to advocate the issues related to
Disaster. Risk Reduction and rehabilitation with the state and supporting its members in advocating at
district level.
VANI: IDF is a member of the working committee of VANI, a national level network of Voluntary
Organizations to advocate issues related to the social sector and VOs with center government.

CURRENT PROGRAMS / PROJECT
1.
Community Centric Child Development program in Vaishali District supported by Plan
International
CCDP project is running in Rajapakar block with the concept of holistic development of the
community by keeping child in the center. The major component of the project is Livelihoods,
Health and WES, DRR, Education, Child rights and child sponsored ship. In its first phase of
implementation altogether 25000 population with 2200 children has been covered and project is
addressing almost all the need of the community. The capacity building of the community and
its active participation in whole process is one of the major strategies.
2.
Ensuring dignified life to the rural marginalized community by capacitating them to
combat human trafficking in a sustainable manner is a Geneva Global supported project
being implemented in Minapur & Jandaha Blocks of Muzaffarpur and Vaishali respectively
covering 44 villages. The main objectives of the project are to make the community /CBOs
aware about trafficking and its consequences with sensitization of the govt. authority about the
human trafficking & also to support the marginalized community for livelihood promotion. To
accomplish the objectives of the project, active participation of the community in the program
with involvement of primary and intermediary level PRIs are integral to the implementation.

“Promoting School Safety Initiatives in Selected Schools in the Urban Areas of Patna
District of Bihar” supported by Unicef Patna is being implemented in 30 schools with the
goal of zero mortality of children in schools from preventable disasters and prevent the
interruption of the provision of education and ensure its swift resumption and save lives and
prevent injuries to school children, teachers and other staff by training, awareness generation
activities and school safety initiatives
4.
“Girl First” an Action Research project with the support of CorStone USA is being
implemented in 40 schools in rural Patna. This is a resilience-based classroom facilitation to
empower adolescent girls with the knowledge; skills and support which they need to improve
their emotional resilience, physical health-including sexual and reproductive health (SRH)

through a technically developed curriculum. It would also aim to create effect on overall ‘quality
of life’ in physical, psychological, social and educational domains. Emotional Resilience
training will foster the self-esteem, persistence, optimism, problem solving skills, social skills
and support those girls need to put their dreams into action, improve their circumstances and
achieve short and long-term goals.
5.

of Jharkhand supported by Plan International

the concept of holistic development of the community by keeping child in the center. The major
component of the project is Livelihoods, Health, WES, Education, Child Rights &
Protections and Child Sponsorship. The capacity building of the community and its active
participation in whole process is one of the major strategies.

“Adapting to Climate Change to Promote Disaster Risk Reduction” supported by OXFAM
India in 4 blocks of 40 Villages of Muzaffarpur District of Bihar to introduce appropriate
disaster risk reduction and livelihood enhancement measures. The intervention also aimed to
create an understanding of climate change and how to adapt to this phenomenon. (Direct
Population: 13,350 Indirect: 58,230)
7.
Addressing Kala-Azar in Northern Bihar through Behaviour Change and Local Health
networking
This is a fresh intervention planned and designed with the express objective of impacting the
prevalence of Kala-azar in Bihar through enhancing community’s awareness, promoting
safe behavior and strengthening informed access to health services. It is being supported
by Charities Aid Foundation (CAF), New Delhi. In its current phase, this project initiative is
being administered in the districts of Muzaffarpur, Samastipur and Katihar, - each one
representing a distinct zones of prevalence of the disease. It has been planned to develop,
generate and disseminate quality IEC on Kala-Azar, strengthen community level processes to
assist behavior change and reinforce community’s engagement with the local health set-ups
towards enhancing timely detection, better reporting and appropriate care and treatment of
Kala-Azar. Under this comprehensive approach, we would address issues of prevention,
understanding of symptoms and treatment regimens through an overarching emphasis
on community and family sanitation.

“PAHEL” a CEDPA India supported project is being implemented in the Block of Minapur
& Gayaghat with the goal of to strengthen the voice, participation, leadership and influence of
Elected Women Representatives (EWRs) in decision making in panchayats to bring about
social change in areas that affect women particularly reproductive health/family planning
(FP/RH) and girls education. (Direct: 463 Elected Women Representatives Indirect: 3, 57000
Approx)
9.
“Rights Based Disaster Risk Reduction” supported by Dan Church Aid is being directly
implemented in 11 villages of Katra Block in the Muzaffarpur and also supports the network
Mission DRR organized in 10 district of North Bihar Region which are highly prone to various
types of disaster. The role being strengthen community resilience through risk reduction efforts
and enhance food security capacities of targeted vulnerable communities with improve support
mechanism by local institutions and duty bearers in targeted locations.(Direct Population: 3124,
Indirect: 21,123)
10. Community Leadership program to strengthen NRHM (health)
This SDTT supported program is an ambitious health sector intervention being simultaneously
implemented in Bihar and Jharkhand to complement, build on and extend the on-going
Leadership Development & Organizational Effectiveness Program of the Packard Foundation.
Its novelty lies in its express focus on identifying community level potentials for leadership and
comprehensively honing these as sustainable entities to progressively enable the communities

in accessing quality healthcare and services. Evolving and strengthening sustainable local
level processes as tools to assist realization of healthcare entitlements and leveraging
available services is a unique component. IDF, as its implementing agency in Bihar, is
implementing the intervention in 100 Panchayats across Patna, Muzaffarpur and Vaishali
districts. It aims further to build this intervention into a successful model to experiment with
local level convergence of services and skills –by co-opting existing resources and
opportunities across areas of livelihood, health, WATSAN, etc.
11. Dalit women empowerment through Self Help Group Initiative and Micro-enterprise
The proposed project aims to address the economic vulnerability of 650 marginalized dalit
families in 25 villages of Vaishali district of Bihar, and leverage the attainment to enable a
well-rounded, comprehensive empowerment. The existing state of extreme deprivation is
worsened by the absence of any stable livelihood options for these communities, forcing them
in a severe debt cycle. The situation of women and children are particularly vulnerable in the
absence of lack of food and nutrition, access to medical care and education. IDF, through this
Lutheran World Relief supported project, aims to focus on empowering the women in these
communities with necessary life skills by organizing them into Self Help Groups(SHGs),
promoting savings and credit, encouraging alternative micro-enterprises for these families and
concomitantly capacitating them with necessary life skills and capacities to appreciate their
needs, rights and entitlements. The project is anchored on the recommendations of
International Centre for Research on Women (ICRW) led SHG study.
12. Jharkhand Tribal Development Project – W. Singhbhum, Jharkhand Supported by JTDS,
Gov. of Jharkhand (IFAD Assisted)
To promote sustainable Livelihoods and strengthening and constituting the natural Gram Sabha
in 2 blocks of Chaibasa district IDF is selected to facilitate to work on the project. Micro water
shed and food for work is one of the important components to assure livelihoods by mobilizing
and organizing community members through its Gram Sabha and SHGs. The total converge is
25 villages covering more than 40000 population with the existing support systems and local
Government Programs. The whole process is gender-sensitive and equity-centric.
13. Let Girls Be Born Project in Palau district along with some state activities with the
support from Plan india:
The project is being implemented with the support of Plan India with a goal of fostering strong
multi-stakeholders’ response to the declining child sex ratio and spearhead public advocacy
and initiate consistent public action to insure the enforcement of the PCPNDT Act. The prime
objectives of the project are to enable all primary stakeholders become proactive on the issue
of declining Child Sex ratio and knowledgeable about PCPNDT Act to monitor medical
practitioners & ensure their compliance with the law. It also focuses on collaboration of
institutions, civil societies and social activists to bring about conducive and unified environment
for prevention of sex determination and sex selection. The intervention extends to Palamu
district and state level liaison & coordination efforts for effective enforcement of the law.
14. “Parivartan” project is supported by Project Concern International (PCI) under Bill &
Milinda Gates Foundation is being implemented in 6 Blocks of Samastipur District of Bihar.
Parivartan is proposed for Empowering and Mobilizing Communities for Sustainable
Improvements in Health Outcomes. Its purpose to improve key family health, behavior, equity
and accountability for health services and to sustain critical family health and sanitation
outcomes among women and children. (Population Coverage: 100 % of SC Population of the
blocks)
15. “Promoting Sustainable Sanitation in Rural India” supported by Global Sanitation Fund
is being implemented in 125 Panchayats of Seraikela District in Jharkhand with the prime
objectives of enabling increased access and effective use of improved sanitation facilities and
improved hygiene behavior at scale, institutional strengthening and capacity building for

sustainable promotion of improved sanitation and hygiene and promoting multi-stakeholder
coalition and learning to ensure wider attention to successful approaches. The project will
extend to the whole district with overall goal of making the district Open Defecation Free (ODF)
through triggering community desire for change and a mix of leveraging of resources from Govt.
Panchayat funding and community financing services.
16. Integrated Project on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Promotion In Patna District Bihar
State, supported by Water Aid India.
The project is primarily promoting the health & hygiene issue of the rural community with a
special focus on the maximum usage of sanitary latrines and installation of hand pumps for safe
drinking water with the full participation of the community and relevant institutions. The
objective of the intervention is to mobilize and educate the community on health and hygiene
and increase the usage of sanitary latrines and safe drinking water by creating a peoples’
organization for the entire management of the programme and that could network with
government, Panchayat, NGOs.
