During today's meeting, the board approved the specific contract agreement as provided by Hite Associates. Johnston County Schools Beginning Teacher Support Program Plan The board approved the updated JCS Beginning Teacher Support Program Plan as presented. Transfer of Current Expense Funds to Capital Outlay Funds The board approved a Resolution which will be presented to the County of Johnston Commissioners requesting the transfer of funds in the amount of $700,000 from the Local Current Expense Fund to the Capital Outlay Fund to pay for unforeseen and unforeseeable emergencies that have arisen which affect the health and safety of students and employees within the Johnston County Schools. 2014-2015 Budget The board approved the 2014-2015 budget as presented. This budget reflects a Current Expense increase of $3,904,297 and a Capital Outlay increase of $1,283,273 for a total increase from 2013-2014 to 2014-2015 of $5,187,570. The proposed budget will be presented to the County of Johnston Commissioners by the deadline of May 15th. Curriculum/Instruction/Accountability The board approved the Title VII application for Indian Education Formula Grant. The Indian Education Formula grant provides funds to the school systems that may be used in a number of ways to benefit Native American children. Johnston County Schools is eligible to receive 2 $23,533 based on 129 students in the Johnston County School System who qualify for this program. Administrative Services Revised Policy 2600: Tobacco Free Schools The board approved Revised Policy 2600 for its final reading. The revisions include "electronic cigarettes or e-cigarettes" in the definition of "tobacco product". Electronic cigarettes/ecigarettes are battery-operated products designed to deliver nicotine, flavor and other chemicals. Most e-cigarettes are manufactured to look like conventional cigarettes, cigars or pipes. Revised Policy 4200: Code of Student Conduct The board approved the revisions made to Item 18: Tobacco Products in the Code of Student Conduct for its final reading. Due to electronic cigarettes/e-cigarettes being included in the definition of "tobacco product" in Policy 2600, the Student Code of Conduct has now been revised to reference that "electronic cigarettes" use is not allowed at any time on school premises, including school vehicles, or while participating in school-sponsored events. Drafted Policy - Food Allergies The board approved the Drafted Policy for Food Allergies, the exhibits and the regulation for its final reading. This policy includes Regulation Food Allergies; Protocols for Food Allergies and Parents/Guardians Responsibility Regarding Allergies. In order to protect the health and safety of students, the policy identifies procedures to help protect students from intentional exposure to allergens, and to prepare staff to deal with allergic reactions should they occur.
