Position Title:
SUPERVISOR OF ELEMENTARY SPECIAL EDUCATION
Initial Assignment: ADMINISTRATION BUILDING
Qualifications:





Hold a valid New York State School Administrator (SDA, SDL) certificate.
Minimum of 5 years successful experience in teaching; two year minimum of
administration experience preferred. Special Education certification.
Knowledge of laws, guidelines, regulations and State standards regarding special
education.
Knowledge of LRE and making appropriate placements, research based
instruction, programs currently available in local agencies.
Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff and community
members.
Performance Responsibilities:
 Oversees Elementary special education programs and placements in district and
through BOCES/private agencies.
 CSE Chairperson for cases for Elementary students/Manifestation Hearings.
 Attends Elementary Principal’s meetings as determined by the Director of Special
Education.
 Supervises district Speech Pathologists, Hearing Teachers and Vision Teachers.
Interfaces as appropriate with contracted service providers.
 Utilizes and coordinates services of Elementary CLS in conjunction with Director
of Special Education.
 Provides direct instructional support of Elementary special education teachers.
 Coordinates NYSAA process.

$84,000

Supervisor of Elementary Special Education (Certificated)
Job Description
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Supervisor of Elementary Special Education oversees the Elementary
special education program and placements and works under the direction of the Director of Special Education.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY: In addition to overseeing the Elementary special education program, acts as
the CSE Chairperson for Elementary students and provides administrative support of elementary special
education teachers.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Valid New York State Certificate as a School Administrator (SAS, SDA, SDL)
2. Minimum 5 years successful experience in teaching; two year minimum of administrative experience
preferred
3. Certification in Special Education
4. Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff and community members
5. Knowledge of laws, guidelines, regulations and State standards regarding special education
6. Knowledge of the following: LRE and making appropriate placements, research based instruction,
programs currently available in local agencies
7. Other qualifications as designated by the Kenmore-Tonawanda UFSD Board of Education
REPORTS TO:
The Director of Special Education
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Oversees Elementary special education programs and placements in district and through BOCES /
private agencies
2. Coordinates special educations services for elementary students in attending non-public schools in
district
3. CSE Chairperson for cases for Elementary students / Manifestation Hearings
4. Coordinates placement of classified students in private agency or residential settings
5. Attends Elementary Principal meetings as determined by the Director of Special Education
6. Supervises district Speech Pathologists, Hearing Teacher and Vision Teachers.
7. Interfaces as appropriate with contracted service providers
8. Utilizes and coordinates services of Elementary CLS in conjunction with Director of Special Education
9. Provides direct instructional support of elementary special education teachers
10. Coordinates NYSAA process
11. Coordinates Extended School Year (ESY) services for qualified students.
12. Conducts observations of special education teachers in cooperation with Building Principals as assigned
13. Assists in preparation of SED data reporting as assigned by Director
14. Duties as assigned
