Feast of the Immaculate Conception
This feast had its origin in the East as
the ‘Conception of Mary by St Anne. As
the Immaculate Conception it was
extended to the entire church in the 18th
century. The feast celebrates Mary, a
prophetic model of what the Church is
called to be.

FEAST OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION
Mass will be celebrated on Monday December 8 for the Feast of the Immaculate
Conception at the usual times; St Anne’s 10am and St Bede’s 9.15am. There will be no
Communion Services on that day.
REQUIEMS
The Requiem for Mrs Helen Boffa will be at St Bede’s Church on December 8 at 11am.
The Requiem for Mrs Beatrice Uberti will be at St Anne’s Church on December 8 at 12
noon preceded by the Rosary from 11.30am.
CHRISTMAS MASSES
At the 5pm Mass at St Anne’s and the 6pm Mass at St Bede’s on
Christmas Eve we encourage all children to come dressed as Nativity Scene
characters, e.g. Shepherds, Angels, Mary, Joseph so that they will be able to help lead
the carols.
Extra Ministers (Lectors, Special Ministers, Altar Servers and Collectors) are needed for
the Christmas Masses at St Bede’s. Can you help? Please add your name to the
clipboards at the back of the Church if you are available.
ITALIAN MASS AND LUNCH
All are invited to the Sisters of the Holy Spirit Convent on Thursday December 18, Mass
at noon, followed by Lunch, cnr Strathalbyn and Cadow Sts, East Kew.

Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation. Children not attending the parish
schools are offered after-school classes to prepare for the sacraments.

Marriage. Please contact the parish at least six months prior to marriage. After an initial
interview engaged couples are asked to undertake a marriage preparation course before
their wedding.

RCIA. The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is offered for those who are enquiring
about Catholic faith.

Rosary is prayed after weekday Mass. Exposition after morning Mass every Friday at St
Bede, and before Mass at St Anne on the first Friday of the month.

CHRISTMAS TOY AND GIFT APPEAL
The Annual appeal to help others at Christmas will be conducted over the next few
weekends. Boxes will be placed at the doors of each of the Churches.
Gifts dropped at St Anne’s and St Joachim’s in the box beside the Christmas trees will
be taken to the Carlton Community Flats. Gifts left at St Bede’s will be distributed by
St Vincent De Paul members to the Collingwood Conference. At St Bede’s please
have your gifts delivered by December 14. At St Anne’s and St Joachim’s gifts will be
received until December 21. Please place your wrapped gifts suitably marked and
identified for either boys or girls (suggested 8 -14 years), or adults. Ideas for gifts
include, sporting equipment for children (rather than soft toys) and gifts for adult men
and women, gift vouchers are a good idea or toiletries and chocolates.

CCI HAMPER
Catholic Church Insurances have again provided hampers for us to raffle. The Social
Justice Group will sell raffle tickets at all Masses over the weekends of December 6 &
7 and 13 & 14. All proceeds will go to aid Catholic Prison Ministry. The raffle will be
drawn on Monday December 14 and the winners will be published in the newsletter.

THANKYOU FROM THE HOLY SPIRIT SISTERS
A Big Thank you to everybody who contributed and participated in our 125th
Foundation Anniversary celebrations last Sunday. It was a beautiful and joyful
occasion for everyone. We also appreciated very much the gift of flowers from the
Parish.

FR KEVIN BRODERICK TRUST
Next weekend December 13th and 14th, there will be a speaker at all Masses at St
Bede’s to speak about the activities of the Trust. The Trust was formed to honour the
memory of Fr. Broderick the first Parish Priest of St Bede’s. Its aim is to provide
assistance to those in necessitous circumstances.

Kew Inter Church Council Christmas Carols Sunday December 7 at Petrie Square
for family fun and food from 6.30pm with carols commencing at 7.30pm.
North Balwyn Inter Church Council Christmas Carols Saturday December 13 in
Macleay Park Family time including face painting, Father Christmas, and food and
drinks service starts from 6pm, Carols start at 7.30pm, featuring St Bede’s Primary
School Choir.

ACRATH – Australian Catholic Religious against trafficking in Humans.
Over a third of the cocoa producing the worlds’ chocolate comes from the Côte
d’Ivorie. Thousands of boys as young as ten years old, are trafficked from
surrounding countries to pick and harvest the cocoa beans. Help stop this abuse by
joining the STOP THE TRAFFIK campaign and sign a postcard in the Narthex or
order an ACRATH 2015 calendars available at St Bede’s.
