Awards Assembly Yearbooks Our Awards Assemblies will take place on Friday, June 6th, at 9:15 a.m. for students in grades K, 1, 2, and at 10:15 a.m. for students in grades 3, 4, and 5. There are still yearbooks available for sale for $15.00 from Mrs. Lorens. All students who have not been absent or tardy will receive a Perfect Attendance Award. Students who have been absent three or fewer days, with 2 times tardy or “left early” equal to a day of absence, will receive an Excellent Attendance Award. Starting June 16th through August 22nd, GACS will be serving FREE lunch to students 18 years or younger or persons up to the age of 26 who are enrolled in an educational program for the mentally or physically disabled. Students in various student groups such as Safety Patrol, Choir, etc. will receive participation certificates. Fourth and fifth grade students also receive academic awards if eligible. Summer Meals—FREE! Serving sites include: Gwinn High School Cafeteria, K.I. Sawyer Elementary School, and the Old Salvation Army building, now known as the KIS Community Building. Meal service starts at 12:00!! Bike Give-a-way Volunteer Thank You The staff at K.I. Sawyer would like to thank all of our volunteers this year! Please come to a thank-you coffee on Friday, June 6th, in the library at 8:15 a.m. Thanks for all you do! We have some free bikes to give away on the last day of school! We will have a random drawing of names to give away up to 12 bikes. Students must be present to win! Thanks to the Salvation Army for this gift to share with our students! Sawyer Elementary fifth grade students only, to celebrate a successful year and the entrance into middle school. Students should not invite friends, relatives or siblings to attend. MANY thanks to the fifth grade parents that planned this fun event for our fifth grade students! S a w y e r S en t in e l Page 2 Students Moving Students of the Month! Please inform our school office as soon as possible if your children WILL NOT BE ATTENDING the Gwinn Schools next year. This will be very helpful in our preparation for next year. Each month classroom teachers select one student to be the Student of the Month from their classroom for following ROARS. Our May Students of the Month were: Office Closed for Summer The school office will be closed from June 15th through August 12th. If you need information over the summer, please call the GACS central office at 346-9283. Registration for Fall Please let your new neighbors know the office will be open on August 13th for registration for new students for the fall! Staff Changes for Fall 2014 As of this newsletter, we have a few staff changes for the fall. Mrs. Julie Anderson will be teaching second grade. Mrs. Girard will be teaching second grade. Mrs. Sheltrow will be teaching third grade. LAST DAY June 9th We will celebrate our last day together on June 9th with our traditional party day with games, obstacle course, slide, and fun, fun, fun! MANY THANKS to the PTO, Mrs. Lorens, and Mrs. Sheltrow for planning this FUN day for us! We have many parents helping that day, thanks! Please remember that this event is for current K.I. Sawyer students only, not relatives or friends from other schools. Younger non-school siblings should not attend due to such a busy day, and parent hands are needed to help our students! Summer Reading at Forsyth Township Public Library The Forsyth Township Public Library in Gwinn is offering a Summer Reading Program! All participants from preschool through grade 8 will receive a FREE book and bag of goodies, a reading log, and a suggested summer reading list. Read, bring in the log, and choose a prize! Registration begins Monday, June 9th. Packets will be available June 16th! The program ends on August 2nd.
