OPRAGON 8
FOR OPERATING
THEATRES
Unique Technology
for Ultra-clean air in
Operating theatres
“Each person sheds around 10,000 skin
particles per minute into the air when they
walk, and around 10% of these particles carry
bacteria. An individual will therefore spread
between 1,000 and 8,000 bacterial particles
per minute”.

USING THE LAWS OF
NATURE TO PREVENT
INFECTIONS
The unique TAF technology (Temperature-controlled Airflow)
enables us to combine safe function with a comfortable
working environment. Instead of introducing a new LAF system – which takes up even more space and uses an even
greater airflow than previous versions of LAF systems – we
are focusing on increasing efficiency.
Instead of using a HEPA filter as both a filter and air distributor we are separating these functions. When installing
the Opragon, the filter is placed in connection to the operating room, and inside the operating room there is only the appropriate and highly efficient air distributors (“air showers”).
Whilst traditional LAF ceilings require high air speeds to
counteract the convection currents from staff, operating
lights et cetera, we introduce a system, which adheres to the
fundamental laws of nature, and which breaks the convection currents in an effective and energy efficient way.
TAF TECHNOLOGY
The TAF technology – slightly cooled, HEPA-filtered air –
thanks to its higher density, falls to the floor at a speed
dictated by the difference in temperature between the
added air and the ambient air level with the operating
table. This technology gives very stable and accurate
control of the fall speed past the patient and the sterile
dressed staff. It also gives us the option of keeping the
balance between high enough speed to break the body
convection of staff and patient, and at the same time
avoiding unnecessary turbulence and draughts.
Example of a TAF installation in a surgical environment
In a TAF-installation (Temperature controlled Air Flow) the Opragon is surrounded with external air showers. The primary
function is to ensure a constant room temperature with regards to varying heat loads in the room

evacuated symmetrically at floor level.
OPRAGON 8
Opragon 8 is designed for installation in the false
ceiling in operating rooms that are used for infectionsensitive surgery. The unit is supplied with cooled,
HEPA-filtered air from an external air treatment unit
equipped with a heating/cooling battery. The air is
supplied to the room through the eight air showers, their unique design combined with the cooler
air’s higher density creates an area of ultra-clean
air under the Opragon. This is made possible by effectively breaking the convection currents from staff
and actively transporting away the bacteria carrying particles before the can whirl round in the room
and contaminate the operation wound or the sterile
instruments.
In a complete TLA installation (see example on
page 1), <5 or 10 cfu/m3 can be maintained in the
surgical working area and in other parts of the theatre (provided that other hygiene and clothing requirements are also met).
SPACE REQUIREMENTS
Opragon takes up so little space in the ceiling that
it is best to place the attachment for the surgical
lights asymmetrically outside of the Opragon. In
this way, the falling air stream is affected as little
as possible.
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION
Number of air showers: 8 in the Opragon
Diameter: 1,970 mm.
Normal flow m3/h: 2,800
Height: 250 – 350 mm.
Connection: adapted individually
Weigh: 100 kg
Compliant with the latest European regulation.
Opragon is laser cut in sheet metal, which
is welded and powder-coated in the desired
colour. It is also available in stainless steel.
It can be connected from above or from the
side, with circular or rectangular channels to
suit the conditions in the room. The number
of connections, their type and their location
is customized for each project. Low ceiling
height, ceiling mounted equipment is normally perfectly possible to combine with an
Opragon installation since the installation.
We offer tailor-made solutions for your specific requirements.
Do you have specific requirements, do you need better ventilation in the entire surgical department, or is it simply a solution
for specific operating rooms that you require?
You may have an existing system that you want to make more
effective.
With our technology, we can help you in all of these situations.
