Guiding Principles
The aim of the school is the
balanced development
of mind body and spirit
through challenge, respect,
responsibility, diversity and
service. Aiglon students
build close relationships with
teaching staff through a tutorial
system offering individualized
counseling throughout their
entire high school experience.
Overview
Aiglon College was founded
in 1949 by the British
visionary, John Corlette,
and is located 1170 meters
above sea level in the Frenchspeaking village of Chesières
in the Swiss Alps. We are
an independent, non-profit
organisation, strongly rooted
in our alpine location. All
students follow a programme
of challenge including
mountain expeditions in
addition to their academic
studies.
Students in Grades 11 and 12 follow
the International Baccalaureate
Diploma Programme (IB). We
also administer examinations and
certification schemes run by Edexcel,
AQA, WJEC, University of Cambridge
International Examinations, the Royal
Academy of Dance, the Associated
Board of the Royal Schools of
Music, the College Board and the
International Award for Young People
(the international arm of the Duke of
Edinburgh’s Award Scheme).
Our student body comprises 342
students (54% boys and 46% girls),
of whom 90% are boarders; students
may start in the Junior School from
the age of nine. Aiglon College has
been accredited by the Council of
International Schools (CIS) and the
New England Association of Schools
and Colleges (NEASC) since 2000 and
is a founding member of the Round
Square association of schools.
“With the responsibilities
of the future in their hands,
our students need to develop
the courage to face challenges,
the confidence to lead and
the humility to serve.”
Richard McDonald,
Head Master
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB)
The two-year International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme was
introduced in 2010 (our 2014 graduates will be the third cohort to complete
the full Diploma). The IB is an academically demanding two-year
programme, well-suited to the Aiglon study style which encourages
independent learning, enquiry and self-sufficiency.
As well as academic achievement
across six subjects, students must
