MSE 2014 MATERIALS SCIENCE ENGINEERING – Young Researchers Meet Professionals, 23 – 25 Sept 2014 / Darmstadt, Germany www.dgm.de/dgm/mse‐congress/ Dear colleagues, we are pleased to invite your contributions to the D02 BRAZILIAN‐GERMAN Symposium on Advanced and In‐Situ Microscopies in Materials Science and Engineering Wolfgang Jaeger Materials Science, Christian‐Albrechts‐University Kiel, Germany Guillermo Solórzano Materials Science and Metallurgy, PUC‐Rio, Rio de Janeiro, Brasil Marcos Farina Biomedical Sciences, UFRJ‐Rio, Rio de Janeiro, Brasil The symposium aims at providing a forum for researchers interested in applying advanced methods of electron microscopy and spectroscopy, including aberration‐corrected electron microscopy, and in‐situ characterisation in the various fields of microscopies to materials research in the different technology fields, such as electronics, optics, magnetics, energy and environment, engineered materials, nanosystems, soft matter and bioscience. Materials research on thin films, bulk materials, surfaces, materials at the nanoscale and at the interface between physical and life sciences is of prevailing interest because of its fundamental importance in understanding the chemical and physical properties of materials and in evaluating their potential for technological applications. Advanced microscopic and spectroscopic techniques play a crucial role in characterizing the microstructure and the structure‐property relationships of materials, as well as in metrology. Current topics will be highlighted in keynote presentations given by leading invited experts. While contributions from all countries are welcome, we like to extend a special invitation to our colleagues from Brazil which is the guest country of MSE 2014. Invited speakers (preliminary) Daniel Ugarte, UNICAM Campinas, Brazil nanoscience Paulo Fichtner, UFRGS Porto Alegre, Brazil ion‐implanted materials Guillermo Solórzano, PUC‐Rio Rio de Janeiro, Brazil nanoscale phase transformations Marcos Farina, UFRJ‐Rio Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Elisa Baggio Saitovitch, CBPF Rio de Janeiro Brazil biomedical sciences spectroscopy of materials Rafal Dunin‐Borkowski, ER‐C Center Juelich, Germany magnetic and energy materials Christian Kuebel, KIT INT Karlsruhe, Germany nanomaterials Eva Olsson, Chalmers University, Gothenburg, Sweden soft materials and in‐situ EM Abstract Submission Deadline: February 17, 2014 We are looking forward to seeing you in Darmstadt!
