I would like to thank the PTA for all their hard work and
successful fundraising which benefits the school. A special
thank you to Emma Whythes for being Chairperson, Lisa
Kingdon Vice Chair, Melissa Sloman Secretary and Karen
Childerley Treasurer. At their recent meeting in September a
new committee was formed and I welcome and look forward
to working closely with, Debby Morris as Chairperson, Emma
Whythes as Vice Chair, Frances Mortlock as Secretary and
Diane and Michael Morris as Treasurer.
How lucky we are to have such a successful Breakfast and
Afterschool Club. Unfortunately though, we are several
hundred pounds in debit. We would therefore be grateful if
you could either pay in advance on a weekly basis or on the
day.
We are very grateful to Mrs Mortlock who has kindly offered
to keep the library tidy for us. Thank you so much for your
help
YR 3 and 4 Calvert Trust
We are very lucky to be able to offer all children in Year 3 &
4 this Federation trip to the Clavert Trust from 23rd to 26th
February 2015. If you would like to reserve a place please
complete the permission slip which accompanied the letter
we sent to you on 17th October. Places are limited.
Cross Country
All the children who competed in the Torrington Cross
Country yesterday had a very successful day! Mrs G said it
was a very tough race and everyone performed amazingly!
Well done to all those children who took part. I am very
proud of you all!
Conor Smith a student from Petroc College has now
completed his work experience with us. Conor has been
working in Bray Class settled in to the school environment
well and has been really helpful. Thank you Conor!
I hope you all have a restful half term, the children return to
school on Monday 3rd November.

SCHOOL NOTICES
Year 6 – Application to Secondary School
We have been advised by the admissions department that some
parents of Year 6 children have not yet applied for their child’s
place at secondary school. The deadline for applications is 31st
October; please apply by this date using the online application
form www.devon.gov.uk/admissionsonline

Sports for schools
We are very lucky to be having a Paralympic swimmer and
triathlete, David Hill coming into school on Thursday 13th Nov.
Each child will be taking part in a sponsored challenge to
complete alongside the athlete. A sponsorship form and further
details will be coming home with your child today. The majority
of money raised will go towards new PE equipment. All sponsor
forms and money will need to be returned by Wednesday 19th
Nov.
KS1 Football club
This club has now finished.

Oliver Byrne has lost two of his named size 5-6 sweat shirts.
Please check that your child has not taken it home by mistake.

We have had cases of headlice reported, please check your
child’s hair carefully and treat if necessary.

Club 49
Club 49’s lucky winner this week was Michelle Dickson. Congratulations Michelle. Club 49 continues in the holidays for those
who have paid by 23/10/14. If you want to play after the half term it is only £1 per week. You can pay in advance until after
Christmas. This will be £9. The PTA accepts cash or cheques made payable to Bratton Fleming PTA. Have a lucky half term

*Spooky Spectacular
Fri 31st Oct, disco in the village hall 6 till 8 pm. Tickets cost £3 each or, for families with 2 or more children, £2.50 each. They
are available from Debby Morris and other PTA committee members.

Community News
PrePre-School
We have started selling Pudsey Bear wrist bands in aid of Children in Need for a suggested donation of £1 per band. They are
on sale at the beginning and end of the session each day. As well as activities on the day supporting the charity, we will be
dressing up as a superhero on the day of Children in Need.
After half term, the children will be planting their daffodils in aid
of the Marie Curie charity. These will then be ready in the Spring to purchase or a suggested donation of £2 each.
The children have had a wonderful time exploring and playing in our new garden over the last couple of weeks. The staff all
hope the children have a lovely half term and look forward to seeing you back in the new term, returning on Monday 3rd
November.
We are open Monday – Friday between 8am and 5pm (term time) and accept Early Years Funding where 3/4 year olds can
access 15 hours of childcare a week. We are also an approved setting to accept 2gether Funding for 2 year olds. If you would

Pre-School are looking for Supply/Bank Staff.
Staff. Applicants will need to have an NVQ Level 3 in Early Years Childcare. This
position will be to help cover staff courses, sickness and busy periods throughout the year. To ensure safeguarding procedures

Baby and Toddler Group
We meet every Wednesday morning between 9.30am and 11.30am in the Village Hall and welcome babies and toddlers from
birth to 5 years old. Our group is a great opportunity for parents and carers to get together and have a chat whilst your
children can play and make friends in a safe and friendly environment. We have links with the Pre-School at Fawn Lodge where
qualified, friendly and experienced staff will welcome you when considering your child’s next step. To find out more about us or

Hallelujah Party
In the Baptist Church Hall on Friday 31st October from 6.00pm. Come and join the fun with games
activities and a party tea. See you there!
Barnstaple Library
This half-term holiday the Raspberry Pi will be in Barnstaple Library for anyone to drop in and have a go.
Teach yourself how to code, program some LEDs to flash, or just play Minecraft! No need to book.
Available all day.
