moving the equipment to other parts of

Thank you to those who are helping keep
these common practices up in our facility.
If you see someone who is not, please
remind them of these. It takes little effort
to help maintain a clean environment for
you to work out in.

Now that we have January behind us,
you know what that means? We are just
that much closer to spring!! ☺
There have been a few changes here at
the Lake Club as of late. First, the
company that did our maintenance in
the fitness centre was bought out by
SOS Fitness. SOS Fitness will continue
to work with us to ensure all the
equipment in the gym is working
optimally. Second, we have also hired a
new cleaning company that I know will
do a great job maintaining the Lake Club
to a high standard.
As we go forward I would like to thank
those who have adhered to the “No
Outdoor Shoes” rule in the fitness
centre. Fitness Centre etiquette is the
same here, as it would be in any centre;
removal of outdoor shoes, wiping down
the equipment after use, returning used
I do appreciate the donation of magazines
that are being dropped off in the fitness
centre and the book donations in the
games room. However, our community
does not have the room or the clientele to
house any more hard cover books or any
type of encyclopedia. Please recycle
these books elsewhere. If you are
donating books, please place them in the
basket. Thank you.
The Victory Church will be in again on
Wednesday, February 11th at 11:00am in
the theatre. Everyone is welcome.
Please check the activity page for details
on all the activities and events going on at
the Lake Club.
We had a great turn out for the slide show
presentation on Partners Relief and
Development last month. The Monday
morning Ladies Social Group has once
again done our community proud with
donating over 150 toques and blankets to
this
much
needed
cause.
FEBRUARY ACTIVITIES
Book Club – Theatre 7:00 PM Tuesday,
February 3rd “A State of Wonder” By Ann
Patchet.
Dr. Marina Singh, a research
scientist
with
a
Minnesota
pharmaceutical company, is sent
to the Amazon to find her
former mentor, Dr. Annick
Swenson, who seems to have
disappeared while working on a
new drug. No one knows where
Dr. Swenson is, and the last person sent to
find her died before completing his mission.
Plagued by trepidation, Marina embarks on
an odyssey in hopes of finding answers. Now
in her seventies, the uncompromising Dr.
Swenson dominates her research team and
the natives with the force of an imperial
ruler. But while she is as threatening as
anything the jungle has to offer, the greatest
sacrifices are those Dr. Swenson asks of
herself, and will ultimately ask of Marina,
who finds she is still unable to live up to her
teacher’s expectations. Replete with poison
arrows, devouring snakes, and cannibals,
State of Wonder is a tale that leads you
into the very heart of darkness, and then
shows what lies on the other side.

HOA BOARD REPORT TO RESIDENTS FOR FEBRUARY 2015
It has been a busy month already for your Board. First of all, we would like
to welcome Brad Lohman, the Operations Manager from the Manor Village, as the
new Manors representative on our Board. The last representative left Statesman
in October, leaving the Manors without a representative on the Board.
Secondly, we have new cleaning staff in the Lake Club. Megtaph Cleaning,
whose staff has been cleaning the Pavilions over the past several years, has taken
over the contract – beginning on a short term basis, until the Board can finalize a
longer term contract.
Because of the situation which has closed down the steam room, there was
some concern about air quality in the gym. To ensure the health of our residents
is protected, the Board commissioned an Air Quality Test by a certified tester be
completed. As those of you who use the gym will note, an area between the
lockers and the west bathroom has been sealed off. This is a result of the air
quality report. Per that report, if that area is sealed off, there is no threat to the
health of our residents. And, again, once some legal issues are settled, the
renovation of that area will be tackled.
Snow removed from Rocky Vista Gardens was being stored on our property
to the east of Brownstones II as a result of a misunderstanding in communications
with RimRock, our snow removal company. The City has given the Villas and
Brownstones II permission to store snow on the volleyball courts. Storage to the
east of the Brownstones II will no longer occur now that the exact location has
been communicated to RimRock. While the landscaped area next to the
Brownstones II would be ideal for storage, it does present a liability to us and it
also is very hard on our landscaping, causing an increase in costs to rehabilitate
the area.
That's it for now. Based on what the Board is working on, we'll have more
news for you next month. Enjoy our winter while you can, especially the great
outdoors!
HEALTHY LIFESTYLES
Easy Weeknight Stir-fry
Stir-frying is a quick and easy way to cook vegetables so that they retain
their vibrant color and healthful nutrients. This recipe combines cancerfighting broccoli, protein-rich pork and the nutty crunch of cashews. Broccoli
and other cruciferous vegetables contain glucosinolates, compounds that may
help decrease inflammation, a risk factor for cancer. Serve over brown rice for
a healthy boost of fiber.
Cashew Stir-fry with Broccoli and Pork
3 tsp. sesame oil, divided
1 large onion, halved and thinly sliced
1 medium red bell pepper, sliced in 1/4-inch strips
1 medium carrot, thinly sliced crosswise
3 cups broccoli florets
8 oz. boneless pork loin chops, cut into 1-inch by 1/2-inch strips
4 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 tsp. red pepper flakes or to taste
1/2 cup chopped scallions
1 Tbsp. finely minced fresh ginger
2 Tbsp. reduced-sodium soy sauce
1/2 cup reduced-sodium chicken broth or vegetable broth
2 cups cooked brown rice
1/2 cup toasted unsalted cashews, chopped (roasted peanuts may be substituted)
In large non-stick skillet or wok heat 1 teaspoon oil over medium-high heat. Add onion,
pepper and carrot and sauté for 8 to 10 minutes. Remove vegetables and set aside.
Heat another 1 teaspoon oil over medium-high heat and stir-fry broccoli for 3 to 4
minutes. Remove broccoli and set aside with vegetables.
Heat last teaspoon oil over medium heat and stir-fry pork, garlic and red pepper flakes for
4 to 5 minutes or until pork is no longer pink. Stir in scallions and ginger and sauté for an
additional minute. Stir in vegetables. Add soy sauce and broth. Cook 1 to 2 minutes.
Divide rice among four dinner bowls and top each with stir-fry. Sprinkle cashews on top
and serve.
Makes 4 servings.
