As I attended several meetings with State Representatives and staff from the Governor’s office, the consistent message shared was JCI chapters across Wisconsin are organizing events that are creating solutions to issues in their towns. At the same time, local economies are being favorably impacted. When you talk about your projects, do you say, “We sell beer or food at the festival”? Or, do you say, “This year, we plan to use the money we make at the festival to help the fire department purchase new equipment, get much needed supplies for the homeless shelter, provide a community involvement scholarship to a graduating senior and offer a training to the community on financial literacy”? Don’t short change your chapters by saying, “We sell beer/food at the festival”. Take your description one step further and describe the impact you make with the money you make. Your chapter is more than beer pouring and brat frys. Doreen Drescher 88th JCI WI President “I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. And I will not let what I cannot do interfere with what I can do.” Upcoming JCI USA Webinars New Member Orientation We will discuss the history of our organization, Active Citizenship Framework, how to make positive change in your community and be an active member of our organization. Brian Devitt Chairman of the Board According to Merriam-Webster, the definition of Expectation is: “the act or state of expecting : anticipation”. When you go to a coffee shop, you expect to get a coffee. When you get in your vehicle and turn the key, you expect the vehicle to start. When you have a meeting to go to, you expect it to begin on time. How do you feel when your expectation isn’t met? (When there isn’t coffee? When your vehicle doesn’t start? When the meeting starts an hour late?). Frustrated, right? When someone joins your chapter, they have expectations. If those expectations are not met, they will go somewhere else. Taking a survey of the membership is an easy way to make sure that expectations are met. If their expectations are in line with the Mission of JCI Wisconsin, then they will be happy, successful and a part of the organization for years. This membership survey can be found on the National website at www.usjaycees.org. You will be able to customize it for your chapter’s specific needs. If YOUR expectations are not being met, find out how you can make it happen, even if that means altering them. By doing so, great things can happen. The Envelope Please…. There was a challenge that was put out there in May that ran the duration of the Summer. It was open to all members of JCI Wisconsin and the prize was a 30 minute call with our NVP Laurence.
