Announcing GOC’s 14th Annual CPD Meeting Dear Colleagues, It is with great pleasure that we invite you on behalf of the Executive of the Society of Gynecologic Oncology of Canada and the CPD Program Planning Committee to attend the 14th Annual Continuing Professional Development meeting in Toronto, Ontario on May 2, 2014 at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel. We have an outstanding array of Canadian and international speakers who will be presenting on a variety of exciting topics including dose-dense vs. intraperitoneal chemotherapy for advanced ovarian cancer; management of clear cell cancer of the ovary; the role of adjuvant therapy in uterine sarcoma; management of low-risk early-stage cervical cancer; Avastin in recurrent cervical cancer; and survivorship following pelvic exenteration. Dr. Noriyuki Katsumata (Japan) and Dr. Diane Provencher will discuss the merits of carboplatin and dose-dense taxol vs. intraperitoneal chemotherapy for advanced ovarian cancer. Dr. Paul Hoskins will provide an update on management of clear cell cancer of the ovary. Dr. Tracey Schefter (Denver) and Dr. Martee Hensley (Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center) will discuss the pros/cons of treating uterine sarcoma with adjuvant radiation vs. chemotherapy. In the cervical cancer section, Dr. Michael Frumovitz of MD Anderson Cancer Center (Houston) will discuss management of low-risk early-stage cervical cancer. Dr. Hal Hirte will review the role of Avastin in recurrent cervical cancer. Lynne Jolicoeur will address the important topic of sexual survivorship in patients following pelvic exenteration. Finally, there also will be presentations on OV-21 (Dr. Helen Mackay), Statistical Endpoints in Clinical Trials (Dr. Amit Oza), Thrombosis (Dr. Marc Carrier), and the nonavalent HPV vaccine (Dr. Marc Steben). Last but not least, we will have our 13th Canadian Leadership Lecture speaker. This year we are honoured to have Susan Wener, the author of “Resilience: A story of Courage and Triumph in the face of Recurrent Cancer.” The lecture will take place during our social event the evening of May 2nd at the Hockey Hall of Fame…Proudly wear your team’s hockey jersey! Other than at a hockey game, when else would you get to wear it? This collection of speakers of national and international reputation is impressive and we look forward to yet another outstanding educational event. Preceding CPD Day, on Thursday May 1st will be the traditional oral exams for the fellows-in-training. These will be held at the conference host hotel, the Fairmont Royal York.
