BR 3 PART 8 ANNEX 91D RM OTHER RANKS (BAND SERVICE) – CAREER PROGRESSION PATH New Entry Musician/Bugler (Musn/Bug) 1. 2. 3. Complete 15 week basic training package. Musns 2 yrs 8 months musical training, Bugs complete 1 yr 8 months musical training. Complete all training, achieve M2 SQ (Musn), B2 SQ (Bugs) normally after 12 months after completion of training following a recommendation from the Director of Music (DoM). 4. Commence receiving annual Appraisal Reports (SJARs). 5. Achieved minimum NAMET 5:5 or Level 1 Functional Skills (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics and recorded on JPA with the appropriate competence. To be educationally qualified for promotion (EFP) in accordance with Para 9640 and the competence "Educational|RN/RM QELH/Cpl|Navy|" recorded on JPA. 6. Request for candidature approved by DNPers. Candidate for Promotion 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Candidate considered for promotion at the Promotion Selection Board (PSB) on receipt of ’Yes’ or higher for promotion 1 Rank Up. Candidate selected by PSB and given Common Promotion Date (CPD). Candidate loaded to JCC(B). (see Note 1) Promoted to Band Lance Corporal/Lance Corporal Bugler iot attend JCC(B). Promoted to substantive Band Corporal/Corporal Bugler on CPD. BDCPL/CPL BUG 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Achieved minimum Level 2 Functional Skills (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics and recorded on JPA with the appropriate competence. To be EFP in accordance with Para 9640 and the competence "Educational|RN/RM QEPO/Sgt|Navy|" recorded on JPA. Candidate considered for promotion at the PSB on receipt of 'Yes' or higher for promotion 1 Rank Up. Candidate selected by PSB and given CPD. Candidate loaded to SCC(B) and M1/B1 SQ Course. (see Note 1) Passes M1/B1 SQ course and SCC(B) (see Note 2). BdCpls with M1 SQ become eligible for selection to WO Bandmasters’ Course. Promoted to substantive BdSgt/Sgt Bug on CPD. BD SGT/SGT BUG 1. 2. 3. Candidate considered for promotion at the PSB on receipt of ’Yes’ or higher for promotion 1 Rank Up. (see Note 3 & Note 4) Candidate selected by PSB and given CPD. Promoted to substantive BdCSgt/CSgt Bug on CPD. 91D-1 October 2014 BR 3 PART 8 BD CSGT/CSGT BUG 1. To be EFP in accordance with Para 9642. Must have achieved minimum Level 2 Functional Skills (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics and the appropriate competence recorded on JPA. 2. Candidate considered for promotion at the PSB on receipt of ’Yes’ or higher for promotion 1 Rank Up. 3. Candidate selected by PSB and given CPD. 4. CSgt Bug candidates to pass ACC. 5. BdCSgt candidates to pass WO Bandmasters' Course 6. Promoted to substantive WO2 Bdmr/WO2 Bug on CPD. WO2 BDMR/WO2 BUG 1. 2. 3. 4. Selection for WO1 Promotion Board when required. Attend and pass WO1 Board. Selected for promotion. Promoted to WO1 Bdmr/WO1 Bug. WO1 BDMR/WO1 BUG 1. Newly promoted WO1 Bdmr/WO1 Bug given substantive seniority date. Notes: 1. In exceptional circumstances candidates not yet selected for promotion can be loaded onto command courses or M1/B1 courses at the discretion of Headquarters Band Service. 2. Ranks failing command training will be loaded onto the next available course if all MBP criteria is met. Ranks failing M1/B1 SQ course return to RMSoM to retake course elements as directed by RMSoM. 3. No command/SQ training is required for promotion to BdCSgt/CSgt Bug. 4. CNPers authorises accelerated promotion on PSB in order to avoid possible shortages of SNCOs qualified to WO2. BdSgts will be divided into Bandmaster & Non-Bandmaster qualified promotion pools iot ensure pull-through to WO2 Bandmaster. 91D-2 October 2014
