WEEKLY CALENDAR
What Is Entrusted Us
The Gospel parable is about a man entrusting his servants
with his property, and the point it makes concerns the need
for fidelity in caring for what belongs to the master.
God our master has left us with the earth, not to do with it
what we want but to care for it even as we live off of its
abundant riches.
God created the land to support living things: What will
happen when God returns to find so much land stripmined, strip-cleared, eroded, and burdened with toxic
waste?
God created the waters to support living things: What will
happen when God returns to find the oceans and rivers
polluted with our garbage and chemical by-products?
God created the air to support living things: What will happen when God returns to find smog and holes in the ozone?
God created plants and animals to live on this wonderful
earth and revel in its beauty: What will happen when God
returns to find so many of them driven to extinction by our
destructive practices?
“Father of all that is good, keep us faithful in serving
you.” May we learn to care better for the Master’s
goods so that when the Master returns, we will hear
those blessed words: “Well done! Come and share
your master’s joy.”
Men and women bear a unique responsibility under
God to safeguard the created world and by their creative labor even to enhance it.
Safeguarding creation requires us to live responsibly
within it, rather than manage creation as though we are
outside it.
The human family is charged with preserving the
beauty, diversity and integrity of nature as well as
fostering its productivity.

TRADICIONES DE
NUESTRA FE

Community Meeting Regarding
Crossings Development Project
We have scheduled a parish community meeting on Wednesday, November
19th at 7:00 PM in the room next to the kitchen area of Ryan O’Connell Hall.
Representatives from the City of San Leandro and the development company responsible for the construction to begin on the site of the BART parking lot next to the primary campus will be available to answer any questions from our community regarding the project which is
set to begin in early December. Fr. Paul and the School Principal have already met twice with the
city representative to be sure our concerns about noise, dust, and safety have been addressed. The
most noise will probably occur over the next two months of excavation for the underground parking
garage, but we will be given the contact numbers for the supervisors of the site and are encouraged
to contact them with any concerns. They will try to work around the time Pre-K naps. Dust will be
mitigated by continuously sprinkling the ground with water to keep as much dust as possible from
becoming airborne. There will be approximately fifteen workers on site and the worksite will be
closed and closely supervised. You are welcome to come to the meeting on Wednesday, November
19th to see pictures of the project and to ask any questions you may have about the project. I also
have some pictures in the office. The construction company is Cannon Construction, and we have
been assured that they have successfully completed projects in urban areas before and are experienced in mitigating the impact of their activities on the surrounding community.
LOVE AND COURAGE IN SYRIA
Questions
After each bomb blast, a few courageous individuals
rush in to help pull people out of the rubble. They
recue anyone, from any side. They refuse to take
sides. They have saved 2,514 people this year. They
are unarmed. They risk their lives. Twenty-six of
them heva been killed in four months. Still they labor
on, day after day. This is what courageous nonviolent
warriors look like. Pray for them. These hoeroes wear
“White Helments”. Our next Pax Christi Friday evening is in December, For details, contact [email protected], or 510-207-6720.
The servant who received one talent feared losing it
and so hid it in the ground. Likewise, spiritual growth involves risk, just as love and trust do. Are you willing to take
risks, or are you paralyzed by fear? If you were a leader in
the Church what kind of risks would you take to insure
growth and meeting needs of the faithful? Is there a place
or person in whom you observe risk-taking for growth?
HAVE YOU EVER CONSIDERED
BECOMING A DEACON?
From its founding the Diaconate has been focused on a
ministry of charity and service. Deacons are ordained to
help the bishops and enabled the church in the holy work
of representing Jesus for those who come seeking the
Good Shepherd. We are planning to have an Information
Night in the near future here at St. Leander. If you have
an interest, please call the Parish Office, 510-895-5631
