The Gungahlin Eagles travelled to Queanbeyan last
Saturday to take on the Whites. We have never had an
easy day at Queanbeyan and this game was no
different. In tough conditions we managed to score a
narrow victory against very committed opposition.
There were several strong performances on the day,
none better than halfback Anthony Dawes, who put in
an outstanding effort in his 100th First Grade game.
Mesu and Rocky were terrific all day, Rocky scoring
what proved to be the winning try, a try that only he
could score. Jordan Fulivai was a welcome addition to
the team, he slotted into the unfamiliar role of inside
centre and played strongly. This was a very important
win for the team and puts us in the box seat to claim
second spot on the ladder. With our final game of the
regular season this Saturday against Royals the coach
will be looking for another good performance and we
can go into the semi-finals with winning momentum
and confidence.

2nd GRADE
Last week a try in 34 seconds. This week three tries in
15 minutes. What are these guys on?
It’s called E for ENTHUSIASM.
Three tries perfectly executed. The first through a
driving maul. Next a wide ball to get around the
defence and then the most determined but the usual
effort by our No.10 to reach the line. Well done
forwards and Stuart Crew, Bunny and Fang(converted).
All this was on the back of plenty of effort, possession
and territory. However this appeared to dry up, as
Queanbeyan got their game into action and in the next
20 minutes the Whites scored two converted tries. Half
time Eagles 17 Qbn 14.
A penalty early in the second half to the Whites had
the scores even. The ensuing twenty minutes was all
Whites. What the Eagles gave in response was the best
defensive effort of the season, holding out wave after
wave of attack from a very aggressive Queanbeyan
attack. The quality of this defence wore down and
frustrated the opposition. The Eagles fought back to
regain territory to attack and from that produced tries
to Griffo and Fang, both converted by Paula Katoa.

COLTS
We started this game poorly, and Queanbeyan quickly
scored 3 x tries in the opening 10 minutes. After this ,
our boys settled into the game and stemmed the flow
of points against us. For the last 15 minutes of the 1st
half and the opening stages of the second half we
more than matched Queanbeyan. The Eagles game
again faded later in the match. End result 46-12.
A full game performance is needed next week against
Royals, and a win will see Colts in the finals in 4th place.
We defeated Royals in first round 27-22

It was the usual horrible day out at Campese Field....
cold, overcast, bleak. Half the team played for 4ths as a
warm up. Queanbeyan kicked off and after 10 minutes
we were down 17-0. I thought "this is going to be a
long day". JD scored, Tyronne converted and at 16
minutes in we were 7-17.

10 minutes later after some sustained pressure, Leigh
Hancock was in off a penalty tap. Tyronne converted
and it was game on! 14-17. A couple of minutes later
we searched though our extensive list of bench players
and decided to bring on Owen Finegan. Not a bad sub
for T3s! I am sure that the ref appreciated getting all
that assistance too.
Halftime came and went , we kicked off downhill and
Qbn ran in a try one minute into the second half! We
were down 14-24, aargh! Lachlan Carr was in for a try
next, after a great clearing kick from Andrew Withers
put us into their 22. Score 21-24.
A Qbn player was sent to the bin for repeated
infringements at the breakdown which gave us total
dominance at the scrum. We were rewarded with a
penalty try after 16 minutes. Tyronne converted again
and we were up 28-24!
A penalty within range saw a successful kick by
Tyronne and we had a 7 point buffer. The coaches
were happy now! Final score 31-24. What a great
effort! Down 17 nil after 10 minutes.
Let's put this in the locker for the next few games to
know what we can do.
