From the President
The byes are now over and we play each week until the
Grand Final. All grades, except 4s are in the top four, with
fours in fifth place chasing a finals berth.
This weekend we play Viking at home at the Gungahlin
enclosed oval. Gungahlin’s water boy, Henry Speight,
finally gets to pull on his boots for the Eagles and will run
on in first grade with his Brumbies compatriot Josh MannRea.
First grade will play for the Roman Warcaba Cup. Roman a
former Vikings, Navy and Australian Services Rugby player
and coach passed away on 16 June 2007 after being
diagnosed with leukaemia. The Eagles and Vikings decided
an appropriate way for the two clubs to celebrate
Roman’s involvement with rugby was to play for a Cup
each year. This is the 7th Anniversary of the Cup and
Roman’s son Liam will be there on Saturday to present the
Cup to the winning Captain.
Ruaidhrí Murphy, Conrad Hoffman and Lionel Cronje are
all representing the Brumbies at the inaugural Rugby
World Club 10s in Singapore

4th GRADE
The mighty fourth grade has had two excellent wins over
Uni Norths and is currently one point out of the four with
a game in hand.
Game one at Uni-Norths home ground had the boys ready
to play and started the game strongly, the boys again
defended strongly and were able to put some good
attacking flair together that had the Uni boys grabbing at
air. We welcomed back Stuart Crew after his sabbatical
and Stu demonstrated he had lost none of his flair.
Overall the boys played attacking footy and were able to
get the required bonus point from the game.
Game two was played under lights at the Gungahlin
enclosed oval, a chilly night but a great atmosphere. This
was Disco Dawes’ 200th game for the club. Great
milestone. Congratulations Disco. With a good supporter
turnout the game was played on a sticky surface that
made handling difficult. Again the boys played positive
rugby. We welcomed back Tyronne who in combination
with Haidn had the Uni defence at sixes and sevens. The
forward pack was dominant and never took a backward
step. The game was played in great spirit and the mighty
Eagles went on to record another win. Unfortunately we
lost Sam Livingstone for the season and talking to Sam, he
may hang up the boots. We know that Sam will be around
the club in some capacity either in the canteen or helping
this old coach out on game day.
