Purpose of committee: The purpose of the Practice Guidance Committee is to provide a means within
the APIC structure to assist and inform the membership on practice issues. This includes awareness and
review of existing practices promulgated by other organizations and agencies, participation in
development of standards and guidelines with these organizations, identification of areas in need of
research, and guidelines development.
Items for Board Consideration/Vote:
Annual Review of Deliverables:
1. All PGC members reviewed Chapters being updated for the APIC Text. Some members were
Chapter authors.
2. PGC members reviewed and provided feedback as requested by SHEA on the CLABSI, CAUTI,
VAE/VAP, MRSA and C difficile sections updates to the Compendium on HAIs.
3. Completed review and comments as requested by CDC on Center for State and Territorial
Epidemiologists (CSTE) Healthcare-Associated Infections Subcommittee document
4. Collaborated with AACN and SHEA on withdrawal of and revisions to a published AACN
document on ICU patient bathing.
5. Joint publication 5/7/13 APIC communication “Important NHSN Highlights” with Public Policy
committees
6. Completed WHO requested review and input on Infection Prevention for novel coronavirus (
nCoV ) and H7N9 influenza HCW exposure follow-up
7. Review and feedback provided to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation for the opportunity to provide input
into the proposed updated Core Recommendations for Infection Prevention and Control in CF
(2013).
8. Review provided to APIC BOD on the NQF resource document: Healthcare Associated Infections.
9. Provided review and recommendations to AORN on proposed Recommended Practices for
Environmental Cleaning.
10. Liaison reports to PGC: SIPC, TJC, PTAC, FGI, AAMI, IAHCSMM, AORN, NQF, HIPAC, ACET.
11. Change to the HLAC liaison position, with PGC responsibility regarding this relationship
undetermined at this time.
