Member Serving in National Office and Committees Mattie Upano Vice Chair, North Central Region 2012 – 2014 PNAA Scholarship Committee 4 Brief History • • • • • • Founded on September 16, 1999 22nd Chapter of PNAA Became the “millennium chapter of PNAA” in February 2000 Co-hosted the 21st PNAA National Convention with PNAM & PNAO on June 21 – 25, 2000 in Indianapolis, IN, making it the most attended national convention in history at that time Incorporated on May 21, 2004 IRS Status: 501 ©3 5 Strategic Goals 1. Increase membership a. Amend Bylaws to include Filipino American nurses, student nurses, etc b. Conduct membership drives c. Arrange a meet & greet sessions with nursing student leaders d. Set up a PNA-IN Scholarship Awards with a local school of nursing 6 Membership Recruitment Drive Troy & Nenet Good’s Farm July 5, 2014 7 Strategic Goals 2. Promote excellence in nursing education and practice in the Philippines a. Start an International exposure for about 2 faculty members from St. Paul University Iloilo b. Collaborate with University of Indianapolis to provide exposure to nursing education in the US c. Collaborate with IU Health to provide exposure to nursing practice in the US 8 Strategic Goals 3. Support of membership a. Engage members by joining in the 15th year celebration – Date & Place TBA b. Initiate awards of excellence, expertise, accomplishments to Filipino nurses in area hospitals c. Assign liaisons to PNA-IN in different hospitals d. Continue to keep members updated of PNAA & PNA-IN activities, achievements, etc. 9 Synergistic Collaboration & Empowerment Accomplishments: • Annual Scholarship grants for BSN, MSN & Certifications in Nursing • Bi-annual nursing conferences for free to members • Awards for Nurse Excellence & Achievement, Presidential Leadership, Community Appreciation, Member of the Year • Participated in medical missions to the Philippines • With the Philippine American Medical Society of Western Pennsylvania at Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital, Roxas City Philippines on Jan. 8 to Feb. 2, 2013. (Performed 52 surgeries & treated 1,500 patients) 10 11 April 25, 2014 NCR Leadership Excellence Awardee Josie Jimenez 12 March 29, 2014 Presidential Leadership Awardee, Manelita Dayon 13 Synergistic Collaboration & Empowerment Accomplishments: • Conducted Wellness Screenings: BP, BMI, Glucose Testing & Bystander CPR • Volunteered annually with IU Health at the Indy 500 Mini-Marathon Start line to corral runners & walkers • Volunteered annually at the Asian American Alliance Race for all Races fund raising to provide scholarship grants to inner city high schools • Volunteered annually to teach Filipino language and music to Filipino adopted children at Camp Mabuhay Source: CGFNS International Fact Sheet, 2008 14 Participated in the Indy 500 Mini Marathon Startline with IU Health, May 3, 2014 15 Synergistic Collaboration & Empowerment Accomplishments: • Members are active participants in their hospitalwide and state-wide Indiana Center for Nursing Diversity Councils • Members attend PNAA National & Regional Conventions & are partially reimbursed for expenses • Networked with the International Center of Indiana and the PACERS organization prior to the PACERS pre-season game in Manila – upon PNA-IN‟s recommendation Pocholo Dela Rosa was credentialed by the PACERS organization as a sports writer to cover the PACERS „ sold-out pre-season game at the Mall of Asia in Manila in Oct. 2013 i16 Asian American Alliance Asian Fest Wellness Screening, Bystander CPR on June 7, 2014 17 Synergistic Collaboration & Empowerment Accomplishments: • Members are active participants in their hospitalwide and state-wide Indiana Center for Nursing Diversity Councils • Members attend PNAA National & Regional Conventions & are partially reimbursed for expenses • Networked with the International Center of Indiana and the PACERS organization prior to the PACERS pre-season game in Manila-upon • PNA-In‟s recommendation, Pocholo Dela Rosa was credentialed by the PACERS as a sports writer at the PACERS game vs Houston at the sold-out crowd at the Mall of Asia in Manila in October 2013. 18 PNA-IN Delegates to the 35th PNAA National Convention Las Vegas, Nevada July 25 – 29, 2014 19 Synergistic Collaboration & Empowerment Accomplishments: Endorsed PNA-NWIN as a chapter of PNAA Nominated IU Health‟s Sr. VP & CNE Dr. Linda Everett to receive the Sagamore of the Wabash – and she did! The Sagamore of the Wabash Award is the highest honor bestowed by Indiana governors to Hoosier citizens who have rendered distinguished services to the state or governor. Since the term of Gov. Ralph Gates (1945 – 1949), Sagamore Award recipients have included astronauts, presidents, ambassadors, artists, musicians and others who have contributed to Hoosier heritage.. 20 Indiana State Sen.
