JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION:
Utilities Maintenance Technician
SERVICE AREA:
Utilities
JOB PURPOSE:
To ensure all tasks are completed to the highest standard as requested and/or required by
the contracts, while also conducting the work in accordance with Company compliance and
health and safety management systems.
To work closely with Project Supervisors and QRS staff members in order to deliver effective
operations and satisfactory outcomes for QRS and their clients.
To perform various tasks within the utilities division related to all aspects of water reticulation
and/or sewer and stormwater reticulation including the operation of various plant and
equipment, repairs, maintenance and replacement of water and/or sewer and stormwater
distribution, pumping facilities and systems.
To perform various tasks within the utilities division related to all aspects of the Wairoa
Landfill including the operation of various plant and equipment, refuse and recycling
roadside collections, sorting and pressing of recyclables, diversion of recyclables and
various other duties at the landfill.
To be part of the Utilities Division on-call roster for after-hours emergency response.

Key Responsibilities
Water Reticulation
Network
and/or
Sewer and Stormwater
Reticulation Network
Repairs, Maintenance,
Replacement and Capital
Works.
Expected Outcomes
 To maintain, repair or replace the network asset as
instructed by the Project Supervisor, including but not
limited to the following:
 Repairs to network pipe systems
 Repairs to consumer supply connection
 Meter reading
 Regular maintenance of Wairoa and Tuai pumping
stations and treatment plants
 Attending to and rectifying pump station faults
 Clearing wastewater/stormwater blockages.
 To report any defects or potential failures.
 To assist QRS with general labouring requirements
Key Responsibilities
Expected Outcomes
Wairoa Landfill
 To perform landfill duties including but not limited to the
following:
 Refuse and recycling roadside collections
 Sorting and pressing of recyclable material
 Monitoring general refuse drop point and diverting
recyclable material
 Commercial recycling collections
 General maintenance and cleaning of landfill site
 To assist QRS with general labouring requirements
Health & Safety
 To ensure that at all times work activities are conducted in
accordance with the Company compliance and health and
safety management systems.
 To ensure the Company’s policies and procedures are
followed at all times.
 To ensure all workplace hazards, incidents and accidents
are reported to the correct staff member in the appropriate
time frame.
 To ensure any required PPE is appropriately used.

 To ensure the Company’s policies and procedures are
followed at all times.

 To deliver a customer centred approach in all aspects of
the role ensuring the needs to individual customers are
fully met.

Supervisor and Project Supervisor.
 To be a proactive role model at QRS by consistently

any work carried out.
 To carry out any other duties appropriate to this position;
as necessary or as reasonably requested in line with your
capabilities.
 To actively engage in training requirements and mutually
agreed training objectives as required for this position.
