That staff be authorized to replace existing signage where required in keeping with the City of Brampton's visual design and wayfinding sign standards and that this name be used in all official signage and promotional material. rvz Background: Rhoda Begley started serving Brampton as secretary to Council and then later as a Regional Councillor sitting for three terms from 1988 to 2003. She was active in her community and found outlet for her dynamic and magnetic personality through her involvement in local theatre. On September 19, 2012 Committee of Council (CW240-2012) requested a staff report on a proposed protocol for recognizing past members of Council and senior staff. Council passed resolution C226-2013 at its meeting of September 11, 2013: "That former Councillor Rhoda Begley be recognized appropriately in the City of Brampton". Current Situation: The resolution has prompted the Naming and Signage Committee to explore options to appropriately recognize Rhoda Begley for her long term service and contributions to the City of Brampton. The Naming and Signage Committee includes staff representatives from various divisions of Public Services and Planning and Infrastructure Services. The Committee, in consultation with the Ward Councillors, reviewed several naming options including parks and facilities opportunities. In considering naming and location options, it was determined by the Committee to commemorate Mrs. Begley's passion for her community and to name a park in her honour. The Committee therefore concluded that the most suitable option would be to rename the Bramalea Parkette to the "Rhoda Begley Park". 12-2, Figure 1: Proposed "Rhoda Begley Park" Location Map Corporate Implications: The Regional Ward Councillor has discussed the location of the tribute with the Begley family and received their support. The City is committed to finding ways to communicate the corporation's activities and priorities to the community, understand the community's concerns, foster a unique sense of civic pride and local identity, and be a community where citizens and businesses are safe and protected. 12-0. Conclusion: This report recommends that Bramalea Parkette be renamed to the "Rhoda Begley Park". The name recognizes Mrs. Begley's long term service and contributions to the City of Brampton.
