Lent arrives this month-- Ash Wednesday falls on February 18. It’s early
this year because of an early date for Easter, already on April 5.
We will use for our Lenten worship a special sermon series based on First
Peter and entitled, “Calling Us Home.” The First Epistle of Peter is short, only 105 verses, but
it is packed full with guidance and encouragement for living in an increasingly secular society
such as our own.
That series will begin on Ash Wednesday with the topic, “Yearning for Home” and continue
through the remainder of our 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening services as well as the worship of
Holy Week.
The topic of “Calling Us Home” will also be addressed in our Sundays of Lent as we focus
especially on what we are to be and can be leaving behind on our way toward home-- things
like complacency, despair, folly, phoniness, and clamor. When we go on a journey, we can’t
take everything with us-- baggage that we don’t need and which would actually interfere with
our travel.
It all will lead Easter Sunday when our topic will be “Heading Home… Heartened and Hopeful.” We will keep our normal Service time of 9:30 a.m. for that great celebration of joy and
hope and victory.
Please do your best to take advantage of these opportunities for renewal. The Christian faith
is being challenged and attacked in ways that remind us that we are likely living in the last
days. None of us is immune from the pressures. We all need the divine guidance and encouragement which we are given through the apostle Peter.
And please also pray that God, by the power of the Holy Spirit, may mightily use the tools of
Word and Sacrament to bring us all at last safely home. “Here we have no lasting city, but we
seek the city that is to come.”
(Hebrews 13:14)

Board of Lay Ministry
The Board of Lay Ministry continues to meet faithfully every month to conduct the business of
the church. Church membership has been stable but we would like to see more of the membership take advantage of the opportunity to worship our Lord for an hour each Sunday morning. If you are not attending, you are missed.
Even though elections have been held, you can still serve the church. If you want to do the
work of the church, the board needs new members. Contact any board member, Mike Tellin,
David Schroeder, Al Thilk, or Pastor Bauman and and we can talk about it.
Finally, the adult Bible study continues each Sunday after church. and the current topic
is "Why We Believe". This is a study that presents evidences for the Christian Faith, and why
Christianity is rational and reasonable. We encourage you to attend.
Thanks
Mike Tellin, Director

BEING ASSURED OF GOD’S LOVE, WE RESPOND
TO HIS GREAT LOVE BY SHARING HIS LOVE
WITH OTHERS.
“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future . . . will
be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ
Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:37-39).
“LIFE IS DIFFICULT.”
That is the opening line of M. Scott Peck, M.D.'s best-selling book The Road Less
Traveled. As a psychiatrist [who was Christian], he recognized the importance of facing
the realities of life and being equipped to navigate it with all of its difficulties successfully. In Christian counseling, you will have your tool box filled with what you need to
manage life in a fulfilling manner. Contact Dr. Dean Pittelko at 844.244.8560 or
dr.deancounseling @gmail.com for an appointment at Immanuel or another nearby location [for you privacy and confidentiality]. For more information check out the website

Tithing – It isn’t only about financial commitment. Tithing is about giving back to the Lord what He
has given to you. The Lord has provided each of us with certain talents and certain abilities.
Immanuel has a great need right now for those of our congregation who have the desire to participate
in our Easter Clean-Up Program. Easter is quickly approaching – it’s April 5th, which is two weeks
earlier than last year.
We need many volunteers for many tasks to be completed before Easter. What a wonderful time for
members to share their time and talents by brightening our facilities for the glory of our Risen Lord
and Savior on Easter morning.
If you haven’t already noticed, there is an Easter Clean-Up sign up sheet on the table in the Narthex –
it has a bright yellow border so it’s easy to spot. It lists about a dozen tasks that need to be completed.
Some are rather easy and others are greater making them suited for a small group to tackle together.
Take a look and sign up for a single or group task that best suits you.
Bill Bayes, Terry Kainz and Bob Brinkman will, once again, take on the task of washing and waxing
floors.
There are plenty other tasks like washing windows, cleaning cobwebs, dusting picture frames or washing kitchen cabinets and counters.
Interested in helping? Questions? J ust see me or Bill Bayes or Terry Kainz. Work time is flexible –
whatever better fits your schedule – morning, afternoon, evening, Saturday or weekdays – it’s up to
you. Arrangements can be made with one of us.
We have cleaning supplies available. We’ll even help you get started. There’s an extra bonus for
working Saturday mornings – we have a very sociable fellowship time, generally with coffee, some
goodies and friendly conversation.
We look forward to your participation in our Easter Clean-Up Program. A job well done is very rewarding no matter how small or how great. Sign up soon.
Please prayerfully consider your God-given talents when fulfilling your Tithing commitment. Thank
you, Lord, for providing us with these opportunities to serve you.
Please note: The latest financial statement is included in this month’s Newsletter to keep you updated.
This period is 7/1/14 – 12/31/14, the first six months of our fiscal year 2014 – 2015.
