Adjournment

Dear good people of CtK.
Thank you for your part in our shared ministry and mission this past year. As you are well aware,
2014 has been a year of significant change at our church. We said farewell to Pastor Ingrid after
her short but significant time with us. Ingrid and her family are doing well in their new calling in
Pennsylvania and we recently received news announcing the joyous expectation of their second
child. We also blessed Pastor Kathy on her way to new adventures after her seventeen years of
ministry with us. Thank you for the grand celebration of her ministry and the gift of training for
her horse Dolly. Kathy is enjoying riding Dolly in the show ring and on the trails. She often mentions her appreciation of your delightful gifts of training and the pressure washer. May I add my
thanks for the many ways you supported our shared ministry as a clergy couple. You gave us
time for each other and our family. For this I will always be thankful.
Healthy farewells are usually followed by healthy new beginnings and I am pleased to say that
our pastoral transition is going extremely well. Pastor Aaron joined us mid-summer and is a
wonderful addition to our pastoral staff. I am experiencing a great working relationship with
Aaron and he has become a trusted friend as well. While we share many similar interests and
gifts, we also have our own unique qualities and abilities which allow us to effectively serve our
varied membership base. He is extraordinarily gifted and it is my hope he will remain at CtK for
many years to come.
I am also excited for Jessica Thielke's graduation from Luther Seminary in St. Paul with a Master's degree this June. We look forward to welcoming her as an ELCA rostered Associate upon
graduation and we are asking you to extend ELCA benefits to her as of January 2015. Jessica has
served us admirably in her dual roles in office administration and children's ministry and we
congratulate her on her achievement as we look forward to many years of fruitful ministry with
us.
Our commitment to theological education for local leaders continues as we support Michele
Jenson's path to ordained ministry as a distance learner in the Luther Seminary Master of Divinity program. In 2015 her duties at CtK will expand through our Parish Life and Outreach programs.
While we have experienced and will continue to experience significant change at CTK there is
much that remains the same. Our fine and gifted staff continues to do excellent work in the areas where they have been called to serve. Church leadership changes every few years but the
expertise, commitment and excellence continues. Wherever you are in the continuum of your
relationship with CtK please join me in extending thanks to the staff, the Executive Committee,
the Church Council, and our many volunteers and contributors.
What everyone does for the Lord in and through the Lutheran Church of Christ the King matters.
It truly does! God Bless you. Peace -- Pastor Matt

Dear Christ the King,
He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God.
Psalm 40
I am so very thankful that I have been called and led to serve as one of your pastors here
at Christ the King. I want to begin my report by simply saying thank you for calling me
here to this congregation. I could not ask for a better church, a better staff or for a better
pastoral colleague like I have in Pastor Matt. These past months have been filled with
learning a new song of how God is using Christ the King for reaching out with the good
news of the Gospel. I look forward to continuing this process of learning and to discover
how God can use my gifts and abilities in spreading the Gospel here at CtK. In the next
year I hope to especially focus on supporting Christian education for all ages and to expand
CtK’s social media/technology presence. I also look forward to continuing my work of
teaching confirmation, preaching, administering the sacraments and helping with administration. I am grateful for our ministry together and for the opportunity to serve God and
our community.
Pastor Aaron
————————————————————————————–————————————
Dear Friends in Christ,
As 2014 comes to a close, it’s clear that we’ve had yet another truly amazing year of proclaiming the gospel, worshiping and celebrating God’s love, and serving our neighbors at
The Lutheran Church of Christ the King (CtK). On behalf of the church council, I convey our
sincerest thanks to Pastors Matt and Aaron for blessing us with their amazing ministry.
Through their ministry, CtK celebrates Christ by honoring His inclusive nature. It’s largely
because of this inclusiveness that CtK continues to grow in the heart of Moorhead.
In spite of our ministerial changes in 2014, Pastor Matt and our staff at CtK continued to
proclaim the gospel without skipping a beat. While the legacy Pastor Kathy built at CtK
over the course of seventeen years continues to live on, we ushered her into retirement in
style last summer; it’s my understanding that she’s enjoying retirement, while Pastor Matt
reports that his honey-do-list has grown substantially. Pastor Ingrid also left us in support
of her husband Dane’s pastoral call to Pennsylvania. In spite of the vacuum this left, Pastor Matt and our staff did a wonderful job filling in the gaps. In July, God blessed us by
bringing Pastor Aaron into our fold. And pending a congregational vote during the annual
meeting, we’re excited to transition Pastor Aaron from half- to full-time in 2015! In 2015,
we welcome Jess as an officially rostered member of our staff and continue to support
Michele in her seminary studies.
4
I am so excited about the energy our council and staff bring to bear in doing Christ’s work
in our community; I’d like to thank them for offering their time and talents in service to
CtK. Reviewing the list of our staff and volunteers in the annual report illustrates the numerous committed individuals necessary to deliver the incredible ministry, programs, and
missions at CtK. Thank you to our Faithwalk and Crosswalk mentors, teachers, and volunteers who, under the leadership of Jess, Steph, Kurt, and Kristi with oversight by our Parish
Ed and Youth committees, do a wonderful job teaching our children and youth about
Christ and God’s love. Our Janitors for Jesus group and Bob Stotts, with oversight by the
Building & Grounds committee, do a great job keeping our church facilities up and running.
Thanks to the Columbarium Task Force for designing and installing our monumental
columbarium.
Thanks to Eldon Wollmann, Eileen Anderson, and Mike Anderson, and Lance Johnson for
the gift of the beautiful pipe organ which now graces our sanctuary and, through the talents of Jo Marie, recently filled our Christmas Eve services with the majestic music only a
pipe organ can deliver. These few examples illustrate how our members, volunteers, staff,
and council work so seamlessly together; the individual committee reports in the annual
report more comprehensively express all that we’ve accomplished together in 2014.
Thanks to your financial generosity, we did not have to borrow any money to sustain operations for the third year in a row! While this is indeed great news, we are now entering
into the second half of our building-fund campaign and, at our current pace of giving, are
currently projecting a shortfall of $132,229. A group of church leaders will be meeting in
early 2015 to begin looking at options to address this; if you would like to participate,
please contact a member of the Executive Committee, and of course, any further financial
generosity you can offer to help drive this projected shortfall down is greatly appreciated.
Thank you all so much for sharing of your earthly treasures. It’s so important that everyone continue to do their part to ensure that CtK can continue offering superb ministry,
programs, and mission work.
Finally, I’d like to thank those council members whose terms are expiring and welcome the
new council members who will be voted on during the annual meeting. As I pass the baton to Jan Berg, I’d like to thank you all so much for giving me this opportunity to serve
you on the council. I’d like to specifically thank Skip for his mentorship and the consistent
leadership he brings to CtK. You have all shown me what it takes to make a thriving
church like CtK run. It has indeed been a great privilege. I know you will offer Jan and the
council the same support and guidance you’ve afforded to me.
Yours in Christ,
Mike Arntson, Council President

SUMMARY OF MEMBERSHIP
Membership as of December 31, 2014
Active Member Households: 637
Active Baptized Membership: 1720
Active Confirmed Membership: 1356
Average Weekly Attendance
January-May: 504

September-December: 593
In 2014, we took an honest look at Revelations (our membership database) and worked to get
a better number of who are members and who are not. Therefore, the numbers presented are
after our statistical adjustments. We spent time cleaning up our rolls, allowing us, as we move
forward, to come up with better statistical numbers.
Notes:
**Households can be one person or more.
**For these numbers, “active” households range from those who worship, commune, or contribute regularly or from time-to-time. On the other side of this
spectrum are those households who do not participate in the life of the congregation, but who count on us for pastoral care.
**All “active” households, in one way or another, call Christ the King their home
church (and will remain so until transfers are requested).

PARISH EDUCATION: CHILDREN’S MINISTRY
age 3—5th grade
Council Representatives: Janine Arntson and Carmen Tubbs
Yea God:
**This year we launched PromiseWalk for our 4th and 5th graders on Wednesday
night. This is a chance for our 4th and 5th graders to be together, learning and participating in a curriculum built just for them.
**Our Wednesday FaithWalk attendance and participation continues to grow!
**This year we gifted 17 Spark Story Bibles to our 3-year-olds. We then gifted 22 NRSV
Spark Bibles to our 3rd Graders, each having been sponsored by a congregational
member.
**We continue to send out a weekly FaithWalk Footprints email. We invite adults to
read the Biblical story that will be central to the FaithWalk lesson that week, as well as
give them a chance to nurture their own faith.
**This past October our PromiseWalk students went Trick-or-Canning (to help fill the
dome with food and supplies for the homeless) and also spent one of their classes at
the Dollar Store for Operation Christmas Child lovingly picking out supplies for 4 shoeboxes, learning what it means to give back.
Dreams for 2015:
**We dream for continued support of Children's Ministry.
**With an increase in Wednesday FaithWalk, we continue to dream for more teachers
and volunteers to step forward and participate in the faith of our children at CtK.
**We continue to dream of finding ways for adults to be a part of FaithWalk and the
Children’s Ministry program at CtK.
**Continue to find ways to nurture adults’ faith, because we know that parents and
caring adults are children’s primary faith mentors, this may include parent education
classes, or other ways to nurture adult's faith.
**We dream of using technology as a communication for parents and families as well
as a tool for inviting families to come and participate. Although our Weekly FaithWalk
Footprints email continues to reach many of our homes, we dream of reaching more
families with better and more expansive technology.
Summer VBS Dates:
** VBS in the Woods: Children in grades 4th-6th. June 17-19, 2015
** Children 3-year-old-4-year-old: Monday, June 15, 2015

board meetings and occasional kitchen use. Two members of CtK serve on the Board of Directors and many
others assist the organization.
**Compiled and printed a one page hand-out for visitors with basic information about CtK.
**CtK was represented at the fall MSU-M Sidewalk Café on Sat., Aug. 23rd, 2014. Music was offered as entertainment by church members and 88 Gideon Bibles were distributed.
**Library surveys were distributed to inquire about other possible uses of the library and what additional
books should be added to the library. Fundraising was conducted through a used book sale, raising $600, to
add to the current book selection offered in the CtK library.
**The renewal of the CtK Ham Dinner was conducted as a fund raiser on Oct. 26th, to raise money for the
Youth Mission program. A bake and quilt sale was also held.
**CtK provided a welcome break from hot-dishes on the menu at CUH as we switched it up and now deliver
hot pizza the 2nd Tuesday of every month. CW continues to serve the pizza meal.
** Ongoing commitment to CtK homebound/nursing homebound members. Support of these goals was
through the Christmas Giving Tree, continuing DVD mailings, providing subscripts for Christ in Our Home
large print devotionals, and poinsettia deliveries.
**Women’s Christmas Party in December remains one of our greatest outreach traditions as women invite
friends and neighbors to the Dec. WELCA event.
**Continued support by the WELCA program for the local backpack program.
**We collected over 90 boxes for Operation Christmas Child.
**Adult trips sponsored to see Minnesota Twins games, Jasper performances (July), Tamarac/Itasca fall foliage (September), Garrison “Dickens” Christmas village (November), and the Concordia Christmas concert

**Provide computerized screens in high travel areas of the church, highlighting upcoming events.
**Continue to work on the Moorhead demographic study for the purpose of recruiting, identifying, and fulfilling the needs of our local community.

WORSHIP AND MUSIC
Submitted by Hazel Jones and Mary Arth, council representatives
YEA GOD:
**2014 was a year that we received many blessings of where we are very grateful. Our
crowning achievement was the installation of the new Pipe Organ which will be blessing us with outstanding music in worship for many years to come. Our heartfelt thanks
go out to Eldon Wollmann, Eileen Anderson, and Michael Anderson for their generous
gifts towards the new organ. We are also blessed to have Jo Marie Fike using her gifts
to play the new organ for years to come.
**The implementation of the visitor log has increased our awareness of new members
and helps our mission of reaching out to our community. This upcoming year we plan
to simplify this log with the use of a smaller version pew card.
**We continue to encourage volunteers for reading scripture in the Sanctuary, thank
you to those who have willingly taken part.
**We will continue to encourage the use of hearing assistive devices for all services;
and continue to reach out to those who are in need. Thank you to all who have provided transportation for those who are homebound.
**We will continue to encourage members to give their testimonies during the year.
The personal stories have continued to bless us and give all an opportunity to share
their faith.
**Thank you to all musicians who have given their talents to the choir, the worship
band, and Testify. Our directors, accompanists, special soloists, are all appreciated for
their dedication. A special thank you to Michele Jenson for implementing and directing
the new Rejoice! children's choir.
Dreams for 2015:
**Brainstorming meetings with our musicians and worship committee for new ideas
will be held twice a year. These meetings will also insure that our musical instruments
are maintained and serviced on a regular basis; with training if necessary.
**The implementation of the new pipe organ will be an integral part of a new and exciting way to enhance and revitalize our worship.
**We will continue to reach out to those who are unable to worship on a regular basis,
and to help those in need.
**We will look to new ways to reach out to our members to share their gifts and talents, including the possibility of organizing an instrumental group.

YOUTH MINISTRY: Grades 6-12
Council Representative: Wayne Brendemuhl and Devlyn Brooks
This year we again have the great opportunity to live out the Great Commission
of Jesus. “To go and make disciples of all people and teach these disciples to
obey all the commands I have given you,” Matthew 28. This command is at the
core of who we are and what we do as a ministry. We create an environment
where everyone feels comfortable and is willing to participate and share their
lives with each other. We encourage our youth to embrace and live the faith as
we equip students with the spiritual foundation necessary to become true disciples.
At Christ the King, we are passionate about spreading the Gospel and we highly
encourage students to bring friends. Students experience relevant teaching, engaging worship, creative illustrations, prayer ministry, and service opportunities.
Our passion is to help students develop an authentic faith that works in the real
world.
Every day is an opportunity to grow with Christ by making good choices. How will
you grow today?
“Teach your children right from wrong, and when they are grown they will still do
right.” -Proverbs 22:6
Yea God:
-For students enjoying being part of Confirmation, Club, and Mission trips and

-For the positive influence of parents and mentors.

BEFRIENDERS
The BeFriender Ministry is a lay ministry, bringing the caring presence of God and
of our congregation to individuals, particularly in times of pain, stress or other
concerns. Our main service is to be companions through compassion, listening and
simply “being there.” Visits are confidential. Pastor Matt supervises the ministry.
BeFrienders meet regularly for guidance, spiritual growth and continuing education. They also
bring communion to their BeFriended as requested and share information and resources with
area BeFriender groups.
Jim Lizakowski and Lynn Sipe continue to serve as volunteer Program Leaders and work with
twelve active BeFrienders.
Yea God:
**We continue to have a consistent group of volunteers committed to serving our congregation.
**Our BeFrienders provided approximately 130 hours of lay ministry to CTK members in 2014.
Participants keep records only of number of hours volunteered. In addition to the hours listed
above, there were 12 hours of ongoing training/supervision that were offered to the active
BeFrienders. Most BeFrienders were able to participate in the 8 sessions provided. The Program Leaders also volunteered approximately 25 hours each in providing the ongoing training
and support to BeFrienders. Lynn Sipe also volunteered 20 additional hours in the “new” BeFriender Training co-hosted with First Lutheran and Atonement in Oct. & Nov. Jim and/or Lynn
represented CtK BeFrienders at other local quarterly Program Leaders Meetings.
CTK participated in the annual Regional BeFriender Workshop hosted by First Lutheran Church
BeFrienders on June 24th . Barbara Schwery, Executive Director for the BeFriender Ministry
National Office, presented the training on “Radical Listening: The Power of Presence.” It was
truly an inspirational event! There were nearly100 BeFrienders and Parish Nurses in attendance.
One CtK member participated in the BeFriender Training opportunity in October & November at First Lutheran Church in Fargo. This 20 hour training program provides participants
with the skills necessary to meet the needs of those individuals in our church who desire a
BeFriender/BeFriended relationship. The training was co-hosted by Attonement, First Lutheran and CtK. Program Leaders from all churches listed shared the planning/training responsibilities.
Prayer for 2015: That all members of CTK who could benefit from a BeFriender relationship
would feel comfortable in reaching out to ASK.

ENDOWMENT
Submitted by Lyle Sustad
Members: Lyle Sustad; Ralph Hansen; Sandy Kreps; Arlan Swenson.
The CtK Endowment Committee was established at the 1991 Annual Meeting. The purpose of this Committee and its fund is to enhance the mission outreach of CtK apart from the general operation of the congregation; that no portion of the income generated by the FUND shall be used for the annual operating
budget of the congregation; that, except where authorized otherwise in the
terms of the gift, all principle amounts will be retained and only the income expended. Endowment Fund money is invested at State Bank and Trust.
According to the resolution of the Endowment Committee, distribution of
interest earned on the funds available must fit the following criteria:
 One-fourth for capital improvements
 One-fourth for scholarships or grants
 One-fourth for outreach into the community
 One-fourth for missions of the ELCA
This committee is scheduled to meet four times during the year. The
Church Council must approve all funds distributed.
Designated funds are kept in the CtK Savings Account until a minimum of
$1,000 is available for investment. Memorials designated for the Endowment
Fund are currently being reinvested in the fund.
A list of people who have given memorials and gifts to the Endowment
Fund are listed in the Memorials.
Memorials that are received without designation are placed in the Endowment Fund by Council action when the Fund was established. Fund Memorial
Card Packets are available at the Church Office.
This committee would like to encourage all members to contribute to the
Endowment Fund and to remember, when doing estate planning, to consider a
gift to this fund. Questions regarding the Endowment Fund should be directed to
members of the committee.
The current balance of the Endowment Fund at State Bank and Trust is
$63,796.
Checks totaling $2,125 may be issued in January to CtK for capital improvements, scholarships, outreach and missions.

WELCA
Submitted by the WELCA Board
**In 2014 we continued our commitment to help fight childhood hunger
in
the Moorhead school system by our continued support of the Cass-Clay Backpack Program administered through the Great Plains Food bank. Through this program we have given both
food and monetary donations.
**Motivational speaker, Kim Wagner, delivered an inspirational program at our February Love
Brunch, sharing her life experiences in a sincere and funny presentation of “Got Joy?” highlighting we are all created for JOY.
**In May WELCA organized and served a delightful brunch at Pastor Kathy’s retirement reception. Seven Christ the King high school seniors applied for and received the WELCA Annual
Scholarship of $100 to be paid to the college they are attending Spring semester. During the
summer we hosted the All-City Bible study serving a light brunch.
**In September we had two WELCA members attend the 27th annual Convention of the Northwestern Minnesota Women’s Synodical Organization. The theme was “We are Called…to
serve one another humbly in love.” We nominated Laurie Radde as our candidate for the Mary
Magdalene Award. This award honors someone who has demonstrated the Command “Go
and Tell”.
**A bake sale was held in conjunction with the Ham Dinner. A bountiful supply of baked goods
was provided by members of the congregation ensuring it was a success!
**The Thank offering Services this year high-lighted the mission and community outreach
WELCA provides on a local, regional and national level through the Thank offerings collected.
We also supported the Backpack program as one of the options through the Giving Tree.
**In May and October we held “Lutheran World Relief Assemble Kits” days. A total of 36
school kits; 21 personal care kits and 3 fabric kits were shipped. 122 quilts were created and
given out to our High School seniors, sent to LWR, or sent to mission trip recipients and local
charities. Twenty Baptism books and sixty books for sponsors were purchased for the Pastor
to share during visits with new parents. Various items needed for the kitchen were purchased
as well.
**2014 ended with our annual Christmas dinner. We enjoyed wonderful food and heard a
message of the Joy of Christmas by our featured speaker, Missy Ohe. We look to 2015, and
our annual Love Brunch, February 21, from 10 am to 12. Doves of Peace, a singing group from
Peace Lutheran church, Fargo, will provide the program at this event.
**All of these events and activities would not happen without the support of the dedicated
Women of Christ the King. The Board wishes to express their Thanks for ALL who helped to
make this a successful year!!
Respectfully,
Christ the King WELCA Board

GLOBAL RESPONSE AND OUTWARD WITNESS
Submitted by Mike Arntson, chair of GROW Task Force
Yea God:
** In 2014, the GROW committee teamed up with the ELCA campaign for
their fight against worldwide Malaria. During Lent of 2014 we managed
to raise $8,381.12! We then found out that the ELCA was willing to match
up to $100,000! Therefore we exceeded our goal. We presented a check to
Bishop Larry Wohlrabe on May 7, 2014.
Dreams for 2015:
**In 2015, the GROW committee has chosen to team up with Ordinary
Hero, in Ethiopia, Africa.
