Job Title:

Payroll & Benefits Assistant (1 year fixed-term contract, 3-days per week)
Position Summary:

Reporting to the Payroll & Benefits Administrator, the Payroll & Benefits Assistant will be responsible for
assisting with the payroll and benefits functions.
Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):












Prepare payroll and expense reimbursement journal entries.
Input data into ADP for hourly timesheets, salaried overtime sheets, new hires, terminations and all other
employment changes.
Update on-line group benefits for new hires, termination and changes.
Update on-line MSP for new hires, termination and changes.
Input pay adjustments, benefits adjustments, expense reimbursement and commissary deductions into ADP.
Advise the total payroll amounts to Treasurer, Site General Managers & HR Director.
Act as a super user of ADP and print out reports as required.
Coordinate bi-weekly RRSP contributions with Accounts Payable and Great West Life.
Prepare Employee Share Purchase Plan demographic, termination and contribution files for uploading to
Solium and liaise with Accounts Payable and Solium to coordinate the bi-weekly contributions.
Prepare garnishment cheque requisitions for Accounts Payable to generate cheques and ensure they are
distributed on the pay dates.
Verify and reconcile monthly statements for group benefits and MSP for payment and update benefits into
ADP.
Maintain payroll filing for journal entries, reports and employee files.
The Ideal Candidate:

Knowledge



2 – 3 years’ experience with an automated payroll system.
Working towards PCP certification is preferred.
Basic understanding of accounting.

Ability to maintain confidentiality while working with employee information.
Ability to maintain a sustained attention to detail with a high level of accuracy.
Ability to multitask and meet deadlines while dealing with frequent interruptions.
Ability to use computers in a MS Windows environment with mid-level experience working with MS Excel.
Good organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
Knowledge of ADP Performance Pack is an asset.
