Secretary General speaks…
N
IMUN 4 aims to provide a platform
for deliberations on matters of
relevance for the sovereignty of
governments as well as security on all fronts,
the sustainable growth & development of
economies for the prosperity nation states.
This would enhance the global need to create
an ethos of accord and collaboration
underpinned by mutual trust & empathy, to
establish sound international understanding,
particularly where opinions differ. This era is
one of tremendous
responsibilities and
equally one of
opportunities for
individuals
to
make a meaningful
contribution
to
international
legislations. Global
citizenship is the
crux of education
around the world
today, making the
principles of the UN more relevant and the
need to incorporate the internationalmindedness in our lives more important, than
ever before.
History‟s testimony to youth turning the tide
of affairs, increasingly, young people are
saying to their elders, to their governments;
“this is not the world we want.”

Tidbits...
SPECPOL
The chair of SPECPOL pulled out all
the stops to enliven the session. Gone
was the apathy initially evident in their
passive attitude as committee sessions
gained vigour !
UNICEF
Russia raised a motion but
failed to receive any support.
The delegate of Russia was
debarred from UNICEF for
threatening Togo .
UNSC
Pakistan irks the chair of UNSC with
persistent, irrelevant points.
The plenary session
of the first day of
NIMUN culminated
in a sumptuous, taste
bud tickling dinner
for the delegates.
Later, the glitzy ball
saw the delegates let
their senses respond
to the pulsating
music and set the
dance floor on fire !
DISEC
The chair of DISEC said that public
speaking was an interesting aspect of
NIMUN. He further added that the global
crisis made the committee sessions more
interesting and dynamic. He looked
forward to gaining leadership skills,
confidence and friendship from NIMUN.
He concluded that the NIMUN would
help him realize the important issues
related to humanity.
The few cheeky delegates were
successfully brought around to mind their
„P‟s‟ and „Q‟s‟ !
UNW
At the UNW, the delegates raised 8 motions. heated
deliberation ensued after which there was a consensus
for 4 motions while the remaining 4 were vetoed.
Of them 4 motions passed successfully three were muted
by the delegates of Costa Rica and 1 by
the delegate from India.

The committee debated on “the
use of economic sanctions as a
means of political coercion”
leading to 2 distinct factions. The
first draft resolution entitled “Bye
Bye Uncle Sam” supported by
Iran, Canada and several other
countries , ousted the USA from
its group owing to the economic
sanctions imposed on them by
the USA. The United States,
Ukraine, and China in turn, allied
to form a second draft resolution
titled „Iron Hulk‟ delineating
methods of economic sanctions.
The power struggles continues.

DISEC
Chair : Himanshu Dave
Co Chair: Devyani Dinesh
The Chair of the HSC and the delegate of the
USA accused all countries of assassinating
President Obama, and planned to launch a full
scale investigation. Russia, the main suspect, was
furious at the allegations and demanded
evidence. Heated arguments between all
countries ensued, and due to the lack of
justifiable evidence, the US was not able to
substantiate their claims.

UNICEF
Chair : Tejeshwar Gill
Co Chair: Nijal Modi
An unmoderated caucus was initiated to discuss
the issue of child abuse, its possible causes and
preventive measures to combat it. A crisis was
sparked off when a delegate alleged Russian
involvement in the horrific rape of three teenagers
within the precincts of the Russian Embassy in
Costa Rica. Several countries endorsed this view.
An enraged Russia demanded a special
investigation into the case, backed by Togo. Costa
Rica opposed this move vehemently.

NIMUN has gone from strength to
strength, it is heartening to see the
sophistication with which the
present Secretariat carried out the
proceedings of the opening
ceremony. It fills us with pride to
see them take over from us with
such aplomb, and we wish them all
the very best for NIMUN 4 from Ex
Secretary General Faizan Siddiquie,
and Core Team Member Nandish
Patel.
