In February we will be beginning to decorate
flower pots. In the spring we will fill these
with beautiful blossoms which we will sell to
raise money for The Alzheimer’s Association.
If anyone has any small to mid sized flower
pots that they would like to donate to the cause,
Please drop them off to the front office or the
activity room.
Thank You for your help.

CHOCOLATE & CANDY


St. Valentine's Day was declared an official holiday in 1537, by England's
King Henry VIII.
Conversation Hearts: In 1866, candy manufactur er NECCO
made the first "Conversation Hearts" — then called "Motto Hearts."
According to NECCO, eight billion of these little candies are sold between January 1 and February 14.
More than 35 million heart-shaped boxes of chocolate will be sold for
Valentine's Day.
110 million roses, the
majority red, will be
sold and delivered
within a three-day
time period.
· Teachers will receive the most Valentine's Day cards,
followed by children, mothers, wives, and then, sweethearts.
Children ages 6 to 10 exchange more than 650 million
Valentine's cards with teachers, classmates, and family members
· Hallmark has over 1330 different cards specifically for
Valentine's Day.
About 1 billion Valentine's Day
cards are exchanged each year.
That's the largest seasonal cardsending occasion of the year, next
to Christmas.
The Italian city of Verona, where Shakespeare's
lovers Romeo and Juliet lived, receives about
1,000 letters addressed to Juliet every Valentine's
Day.
California produces 60 percent of American roses, but the
vast number sold on Valentine's Day in the United States are
imported, mostly from South America.
Back in medieval days, there was a tradition which made young men and
women write their names on a little piece of paper and drop them in a
bowl on February 14. Later, men would pick names from the bowl kept
for women and wear the chosen name on their sleeves; an indication for
the woman to be their valentine. Now you know what it means, when
someone says,” To wear your heart on your sleeve”. This famous tradition
is still practiced by many in different corners of the world where
Valentine’s Day is celebrated within young men and women to spot their
valentines.
· They say if you are a woman and you see a
flying robin on Valentine’s Day, it is likely that
you will marry a sailor. In case, you see a
flying sparrow then you would marry a poor
but a happy man. If it was goldfinch, then your
luck is about to shine because there is a
millionaire waiting for you. Now, don’t go
around hunting birds on trees!
·
· I don't understand why Cupid
was chosen to represent Valentine's
Day.When I think about romance,
the last thing on my mind is a short,
chubby toddler coming at me with a
weapon.~Author Unknown

THE FLU!
“How to avoid catching & spreading the flu this season”
The flu can be a nasty bug during winter months! Are you constantly avoiding
others around you with a cough or cold? Do you have a cold-and-flu phobia?
Here are some wonderful ways the medical experts recommend staying “FluFree” this year:
1.) Every time you shake someone’s hand, wash yours, But don’t stop there.
Wash them as much as possible. Running lots of water over your hands will
dilute any germs and send them down the drain.
2.) Keep your hands off. Touching your nose and your eyes may hurt you. Those
are the most common places for germs to get in.
3.) Go to bed! As if getting enough sleep on a normal basis isn’t hard enough,
you need more sleep when you’re feeling under the weather. When you’re
tired, your body isn’t fighting as hard, we suggest getting 8 to 10 hours a night.
4.) Build up with healthy food! You may think it’s hard to eat healthy on a
regular basis, but eating plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables supports your
Immune system, and that’s a lot easier than fighting off the flu.
5.) Stay Active! Get those sweats on and exercise. Working out regularly
enhances immune function!
