The German Educational System
Vocational sector
Hannah-Arendt-Schule
Hannah-Arendt-Schule
The Dual System of Vocational Training in Germany
in 329 state approved professions/trades :
1)The apprentice and the company agree on ‚articles of
apprenticeship‘, generally for a period of two to three and a half
years.
2)During this period attending a vocational college is
compulsory (2 days a week in the first year, 1 day a week in the
second to the fourth year – or blocked )!
3)For the rest of the week the apprentices are in their company.
4)After the agreed period of apprenticeship the apprentice has to
take an examination based on a nationwide curriculum showing the
acquired skills. This will be certified by the Chambers of Commerce
or the Chambers of Crafts and is recognized nationwide!
5) Intensive cooperation between the companies involved and the
college is not only expected but necessary because in the Dual
System of vocational training there are two places of training – the
the company and the college.
