O Come, O Come, Emmanuel
O come, O come, Emmanuel,
and ransom captive Israel
that mourns in lonely exile here
until the Son of God appear.
Refrain:
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
shall come to you, O Israel.
O come, O Wisdom from on high,
who orders all things mightily;
to us the path of knowledge show
and teach us in her ways to go.
Refrain
O come, O come, great Lord of might,
who to your tribes on Sinai's height
in ancient times once gave the law
in cloud and majesty and awe.
Refrain
O come, O Key of David, come
and open wide our heavenly home;
make safe the way that leads on high,
and close the path to misery.
Refrain
O come, O Dayspring from on high
and cheer us by your drawing nigh;
disperse the gloomy clouds of night,
and death’s dark shadow put to flight.

in one the hearts of all mankind.

Call to Worship
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
and the love of God,
and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
be with you all.
And also with you.
Almighty God,
to you all hearts are open,
all desires known,
and from you no secrets are hidden.

by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit,
that we may perfectly love you,
and worthily magnify your holy name;
through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Advent candle - Hope
The people walking in darkness
have seen a great light.
We light this candle to remember those who waited in hope
for the Messiah. We light one candle and hope that the
brightness will grow as we travel through Advent to
Christmas.
Light the first candle.
Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess,
for he who promised is faithful.

Advent Responses
Among the poor, among the proud,
among the persecuted, among the privileged,
Christ is coming.
He is coming to make all things new.
In the private house, in the market place,
in the wedding feast, in the judgement hall,
Christ is coming.
He is coming to make all things new.
With a gentle touch, with an angry word,
with a clear conscience, with burning love,
Christ is coming.
He is coming to make all things new.
That the Kingdom might come, that the world might believe,
that the powerful might stumble, that the humble might be
raised,
Christ is coming.
He is coming to make all things new.
Within us, without us, among us, before us,
In this place, in every place, for this time, for all time,
Christ is coming.
He is coming to make all things new.
The Collect:
Almighty God, give us grace to cast away the works of
darkness, and put on the armour of light, now in the time
of this mortal life in which your Son Jesus Christ came to
us in great humility, that on the last day, when he shall
come again in his glorious majesty, to judge both the
quick and the dead, we may rise to the life immortal;
through him who lives and reigns with you and the Holy
Spirit, one God now and forever. Amen
4
First Reading:
Isaiah 64:1-9
Hear what the Spirit is saying to God’s people.
Thanks be to God.
Psalm:
80: 1-7, 17-18
Hear, O Shepherd of Israel, leading Joseph like a flock;
shine forth, you that are enthroned upon the cherubim.
In the presence of Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasseh,
stir up your strength and come to help us.
Restore us, O God of hosts;
show the light of your countenance, and we shall be
saved.
O Lord God of hosts,
how long will you be angered
despite the prayers of your people?
You have fed them with the bread of tears;
you have given them bowls of tears to drink.
You have made us the derision of our neighbours,
and our enemies laugh us to scorn.
Restore us, O God of hosts;
show the light of your countenance, and we shall be
saved.
And so will we never turn away from you;
give us life, that we may call upon your name.
Restore us, O Lord God of hosts;
show the light of your countenance, and we shall be
saved.
Second Reading:
1 Corinthians 1:3-9
Hear what the Spirit is saying to God’s people.
Thanks be to God.

In the Lord I’ll be Ever Thankful
Gradual Hymn:
In the Lord I’ll be ever thankful,
In the Lord, I will rejoice!
Look to God, do not be afraid;
lift up your voices: the Lord is near,
Lift up your voices: the Lord is near.

The Holy Gospel is read:

The Gospel of Christ
Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
Sermon: Reverend David Chillman
Hymn: SB 22
Christ, Be Our Light
Apostles Creed
Let us confess the faith of our baptism, as we say,
I believe in God,
the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
6
He will come again
to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
Prayers of the People:
a moment of silence
Confession and Absolution
A voice cries out in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way
of the Lord.’ So let us listen, and turn to
the Lord in penitence and faith.
silence is kept
Most merciful God,
we confess that we have sinned against you
in thought, word, and deed,
by what we have done,
and by what we have left undone.
We have not loved you with our whole heart;
we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves.
We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.
For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ,
have mercy on us and forgive us,
that we may delight in your will,
and walk in your ways,
to the glory of your name. Amen.
Almighty God have mercy upon you,
pardon and deliver you from all your sins,
confirm and strengthen you in all goodness,
and keep you in eternal life;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
silence is kept
7
The Peace:
In the tender mercy of our God, the dayspring from on high
shall break upon us, to give light to
those who dwell in darkness and in the shadow of death and
to guide our feet into the way of peace.
The peace of the Lord be always with you.
And also with you.
As we pass the peace of Christ, we greet each other with a heart of
forgiveness and reconciliation preparing us to come together at the
altar in peace and unity as one family in Christ.
Offertory Hymn: CP 482
Come and Journey with a Saviour
Come and journey with a Saviour
who has called us from our birth,
who has washed us in the waters,
and who loved us on the earth.
Refrain
Come and journey, come and journey
with a Saviour who has come.
We are all God's sons and daughters;
in the Spirit we are one.
Come and journey, journey inward,
come and seek him deep within,
where he meets us in our living,
in our striving and our sin.
Refrain
Come and journey, journey outward,
telling others of his name,
telling others of his glory,
of his cross and of the shame.
Refrain
Come and journey, journey outward,
where that cross calls us to care,
where injustice and where hunger
and the poor call us to share.
Refrain
8
Come and journey, journey upward.
Sing his praises, offer prayer.
In the storm and in the stillness
find his presence everywhere.
Refrain
Come and journey, journey onward;
all our gifts we now shall bring
to the building of a city
that is holy, Christ its King.
Refrain
Prayer over the Gifts:
God of love and power, your word stirs within us the
expectation of the coming of your Son. Accept all we
offer you this day, and sustain us with your promise of
eternal life. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our
Lord. Amen
Eucharistic Prayer
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.
It is indeed right that we should praise you,
gracious God, for you created all things…….
……..we give thanks and raise our voices
to proclaim the glory of your name.
Holy, holy, Lord God almighty
Worthy is the Lamb who was slain.
Highest praises, honor and glory
Be unto Your name,
Be unto Your name. (sung twice)
9
Holy God, source of life and goodness,
all creation rightly gives you praise.
………….Gracious God, his perfect sacrifice
destroys the power of sin and death;
by raising him to life, you give us life for evermore.
Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith.
Christ has died.
Christ is risen.
Christ will come again.
Recalling his death, proclaiming his resurrection
..…….Through Christ, with Christ, and in Christ,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
all glory is yours, almighty Father,
now and for ever. Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer (sung)
As our Saviour taught us, let us pray,
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial,
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours,
now and for ever. Amen.
The Breaking of the Bread:
We break this bread
to share in the body of Christ.
We, being many, are one body,
for we all share in the one bread.
10
The Communion:
Here is the table of the Lord,
we are gathered to his supper,
a foretaste of things eternal.
Come, when you are fearful, to be made new in love.
Come, when you are doubtful, to be made strong in faith.
Come, when you are regretful, and be made whole.
Come, old and young,
there is room for all.
“We welcome all to God’s table, to receive the bread and wine of
Holy Communion. Due to health concerns, the dipping of the bread
into the wine (intinction) is no longer permitted. Receiving in one
kind only (bread) is considered receiving in full.”
If you wish individual prayers for healing, thanksgiving, or any
concerns, please go through the rear doors after receiving
communion. Members of the prayer team will meet you there.

Spirit Open My Heart
Refrain:
Spirit, open my heart to the joy and pain of living.
As you love, may I love, in receiving and in giving,
Spirit, open my heart.
God, replace my stony heart with a heart that’s kind and
tender.
All my coldness and fear to your grace I now surrender.
Refrain
Write your love upon my heart as my law, my goal, my
story.
In each thought, word, and deed, may my living bring
you glory.
Refrain.
11
May I weep with those who weep, share the joy of sister,
brother.
In the welcome of Christ, may we welcome one another.
Refrain:
Spirit, open my heart to the joy and pain of living.
As you love, may I love, in receiving and in giving,
Spirit, open my heart.
