Zentrum für Informationsdienste und Hochleistungsrechnen Parallelisaon of a Hierarchical Volume Data PreProcessor Visualizaon of large three-dimensional data sets on consumer hardware requires pre-processing into hierarchical volume image data to reduce required data transfers onto GPUs, making the rendering process more ecient. This processing is typically an I/O-bound problem and can thus bene't from high bandwidth storage found in modern High Performance Compung (HPC) systems. In this Bachelor thesis, a serial applicaon for generang hierarchical volume image data will be extended to exploit mulple levels of parallelism on HPC hardware. In order to use the aggregated I/O bandwidth of mulple nodes, mul-process parallelism needs to be added to the applicaon, e.g., using MPI. Addionally, thread-based parallelism will be required to be/er exploit the resources of a single compute node. Envisioned Tasks 1) Invesgaon of suitable parallelisaon strategies 2) Implementaon of the proposed parallelisaon strategy 3) Validaon and analysis of the proposed soluon a) Speedup and parallel eciency b) Eciency of the use of the I/O subsystem 4) Documentaon of implementaon and results in wri/en form Requirements Parallel programming in C/C++ Language English or German Time As soon as possible Contact M.Sc.
