占領軍 G-2 歴史課と旧日本軍人グループ

占領軍によるインテリジェンス活動を知る基本的な資料である「総合インテリジェンス
叢書」を編纂した参謀第二部（G-2)の歴史課には、ゴードン・プランゲ博士とハリー・エ
マーソン博士という二人の歴史家がいて、ウィロビー部長の下でいわゆる「マッカーサー
戦史」などの記録を編纂していたこと、そしてそれに旧日本軍の幹部が戦争犯罪人として
の訴追を免れて協力していたことが知られている。本稿では、この G-2 歴史課に関する先
行研究を踏まえで、新たに発掘した資料から、この歴史課の活動と機能、及びこの組織と
復員省史実調査部との関係、またこの両方の組織に関わり、戦史編纂などを行った旧軍人
からなる日本人グループの顔ぶれや活動状況を明らかにし、従来の証言や言及を検証する
と同時に、日本占領における接収文書を米国へ送付するにあたって、プランゲ博士が CIA
の外国語文書課へのチェックを行う役割を果たしていたことを指摘した。
G-2 Historical Section of the occupation army SCAP/FEC and a Japanese group of
former military officers

The G-2 Historical Section of the occupation army SCAP/FEC, for which two
historians, Dr. Gordon W. Prange and Dr. Harry E. Wildes, worked, compiled a General
Intelligence Series, essential documents relating to intelligence activities by the
occupation army in Japan, and the MacArthur Report in cooperation with a group of
Japanese former military officers. This paper will review and clarify the functions and
activities of the G-2 Historical Section, its relation with "Institute for War Records
Investigation" of Japanese government, and the conditions and members of Japanese
group working for this section. It will also indicate that Dr. Prange was responsible for
the clearance of important documents collected in Japan to send to the U.S., especially
the foreign document section of CIA.
