Student/in sucht Zimmer (Student looks for a Room)
This is a sample of a possible German Oral between the Examiner and a Student. The Examiner
will play the role the landlord/ landlady while the student will play the role of the sudent who
is looking for a room. Remember, each conversation will differ slightly from person to person,
but the same points must be covered in each Role Play. Each point (1-5) covers all required 4
points of information.
1. Examiner: Guten Tag. Wie kann ich Ihnen helfen? (How can I help you?)
Student: Guten Tag. Ich heiße Anna. Ich habe ihre Anzeige (advertisement) in der
Zeitung (newspaper) gesehen. Ich möchte gerne das Zimmer mieten. (rent)
Examiner: Toll! (Great!) Was machen Sie in Köln (What do you do in Cologne) und wie
lange bleiben Sie hier (and how long have you lived here)?

Student: Ich mache ein Auslandsjahr (gap year abroad) und ich studiere hier in Köln
für zehn Monate. Ich bin Studentin. (I’m a student.)
2. Examiner: Das Zimmer ist noch frei.
Student: Prima! Wieviel kostet das Zimmer im Monat? (How much does the room cost
per month?)
Examiner: Das Zimmer kostet 800 Euro im Monat.
Student: Sind Strom (electricity) und Heizung (heating) im Preis inbegriffen? (included)
Examiner: Strom und Heizung müssen Sie extra bezahlen. (pay extra)
Student: Ab wann (From when) kann ich das Zimmer mieten?
Examiner: Das Zimmer können sie ab sofort (immediately) mieten.
Student: Und gibt es eine Mindestmietdauer (minimum rental period)?
Examiner: Die Mindestmietdauer ist ein Jahr.
3. Student: Und hat die Wohnung (apartment) eine Dusche (shower) oder ein Bad (bath)?
Examiner: Es gibt eine Dusche und ein Bad.
Student: Gibt es eine Kochgelegenheit? (a cooking facility)
Examiner: Ja, aber die Küche müssen Sie mit drei anderen teilen. (yes, but you must
share the kitchen with 3 others.)

Student: Darf man Besucher einladen oder Partys haben und Musik machen? (Is one
allowed to invite visitors or have parties and make music?)
Examiner: Besucher sind nicht erlaubt, (Visitors are not allowed) auch keine Partys
oder laute Musik. (also no parties or loud music.)
4. Student: Das Zimmer gefällt mir sehr gut und ich brauche Dringend ein Zimmer (The
room is pleasing to me and I need a room urgently) aber ich kann nicht mehr als sechs
hundert Euro zahlen. (but I can only pay 600 euro.)
Examiner: Ok, sagen wir acht hundert Euro inklusive (including) Strom und Heizung.
Student: Nein, tut mir leid, (sorry) ich kann wirklich (really) nur (only) sechs hundert
Euro bezahlen. (pay) Ich bestehe darauf. (I insist.) Das ist unmöglich. (That is impossible.)
Aber ich babysitte sehr gern. Darf ich bitte für sechs hundert Euro mieten, wenn ich
manchmal (sometimes) babysitte?
Examiner: In Ordnung, (Alright) ich gebe Ihnen (I give you) das Zimmer für 600 Euro.
5. Student: Vielen Dank. Das ist sehr freundlich von Ihnen. Ich habe noch (still) ein
Problem. Ich bekomme Besucher aus Irland (I am getting visitors from Ireland) und sie
wollen bei mir übernachten. (and they want to sleep over) Ist das möglich? (possible)
Examiner: Ja, Besucher aus Irland ist kein Problem.

Student: Ich schwärme für Musik. (I’m crazy about music) und ich spiele sehr gern
Gitarre. Ich möchte hier in Deutschland Gitarre spielen. Ist das in Ordnung?
Examiner: Sie Können Gitarre spielen, aber nur bis 22 Uhr. (only until 10:00) Ab dann
ist Nachtruhe.
Student: Ok, kein Problem! Ich nehme das Zimmer! (I’ll take the room) Vielen Dank.
Bis Morgen! (Until tomorrow!)
Examiner: Sehr gut. Dann können Sie morgen einziehen. (Then tomorrow you can
move in)
