Deas Richardson
Hey there, Imabari! You might
recognize my name and face
from the last two issues of
i-News. I am a newcomer to
Imabari, having arrived this
past summer from America
after I graduated from Furman University in South Carolina with a bachelor’s degree
in Asian Studies. My name is
Deas, and I am lucky to have
been living on Hakatajima and teaching at 7 schools on 5
islands around the Shimanami Kaido and in Imabari city
for the past 6 months or so. I think I must be a learner
by nature, because I constantly study things around me
– whether or not they are academic. I want to continue
learning all my life, and am curious about all sorts of
things. I think this characteristic is what fuels my interest
in photography, language acquisition, anthropology, and
interesting conversation. They are all ways in which I can
inspect, pry apart, delve into, and mentally digest new
information and experiences. In the end, I think there
are very few things I ﬁnd more enjoyable than a really
engaging conversation. If you see me, please feel free
to say hello and start up a conversation!

今治のみなさん！最近2回続けてアイニュ
ースに記事を書いたから、
僕の名前と顔に覚えが
あるかもしれないね。
去年の夏、
サウスカロライナ
州のファーマン大学（アジア人類文化学専攻）
を
卒業して、今治にやって来たデイズです。幸運な
ことに伯方島に住んで、
しまなみ海道周辺の５つ
どうも
の島と今治市の7つの学校で教えてます。
僕は生まれつき学ぶってことが大好きみたいだ。
何せ自分の周りのもの何でも、
学問的なことであ
ろうと無かろうと、
絶えず研究してるからね。
一生
この学究的態度を保って学び続けたいと思ってい
る。
つまり好奇心が旺盛なんだ！特に写真、
語学、
文化人類学、
そして面白い会話に興味有り。
ちら
りと覗き見する程度じゃないよ、色んな角度から
調査し、掘り下げ、
そして獲得した情報と経験を
自分なりに消化するのだ。
でも結局は、
すごく会
話にはまり込む以上に面白いことはあんまり無い
と思うんだけどね。
だから僕を見かけたら、
気軽に
声をかけて会話を仕掛けてください！
