Transnational workshop Sustainable logistics in Europe: How to mitigate negative impact of freight transport Date: 3 June 2014 Location: Dinalog, Princenhagelaan 13, 4813 DA Breda, The Netherlands Introduction To adapt to environmental regulation and to direct logistics towards low carbon operations, the whole transport sector is regularly developing innovation solutions to instigate change to make freight movements more efficient, more reliable and ultimately more sustainable. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) plays an integral part to drive forward these solutions. They provide tools to identify routes, plan journeys, calculate emissions and share information for a better use of multimodal transport. An additional focus can be placed on exploring how we can change our ways of thinking, doing or behaving and implement new concepts to make transport more sustainable, including "bundling" and sharing capacity, modal shift and changing end user expectations. Six EU funded projects from several EU programmes are dealing with these issues and have developed a set of specific tools to support logistics business, transport planners and regulators, and end users. During the workshop, the results and best practices of various projects will be shared, which will lay the basis for further developments of potential projects for the next Programme period. During the workshop, the Public Research Center Henri TUDOR, will display an innovative decision-‐making tool, a "tangible table", which is supporting a GIS web mapping platform developed under the Weastflows project. Workshop themes: 1. Cluster and region development and internationalisation 2. Green transport corridors 3. Enhancing multimodality and modal shift 4. Urban logistics 5. ICT for advanced supply chains 6. Horizontal collaboration 7.
