Algemene informatie
Je gaat werken voor het Europees project EUPORIAS (European Provision Of
Regional Impacts Assessments on Seasonal and Decadal Timescales). Doel van dit
project is bruikbare en betrouwbare afgeleide producten te ontwikkelen gebaseerd
op verwachtingen op seizoens- tot decadale (S2D) tijdschaal. Het KNMI onderzoek
binnen dit project richt zich op de afleiding van gebruikersgerichte
klimaatindicatoren, inclusief een kwantificering onzekerheden, gebaseerd op
historische stationswaarnemingen en uitvoer van modellen.
Functie informatie
- onderzoeken en ontwikkelen van nieuwe toepassingsgerichte klimaatproducten
- analyses uitvoeren van klimaatreeksen uit waarnemingen (in situ en satelliet),
reanalysis en modellen
- bepaling van de skill van S2D verwachtingen in termen van gebruikersgerichte
variabelen
- bijdragen aan periodieke "assessments" van indicatoren van klimaatverandering
- bijdragen aan internationale onderzoeksactiviteiten in het kader van verwante
EU-projecten (UERRA, CHARMe)
- bijdragen aan (semi-) operationele aspecten van het ECA&D systeem en
vergelijkbare systemen die opgezet worden in andere werelddelen (ICA&D)
Vereist
- PhD (of vergelijkbaar niveau) in de natuurwetenschappen
- excellente communicatieve vaardigheden in het Engels
- vermogen om complexe datasets te bewerken en statistisch te analyseren
- ervaring met het schrijven van wetenschappelijke publicaties
- goede IT skills
- zelfstandig kunnen opereren, maar ook als onderdeel van een team in EUprojecten incl. rapportage (zowel schriftelijk als mondeling)

Job information
The candidate will work in the collaborative project EUPORIAS (European Provision
Of Regional Impacts Assessments on Seasonal and Decadal Timescales) funded by
the European commission (see also www.euporias.eu). EUPORIAS intends to
improve our ability to maximize the societal benefit of seasonal to decadal (S2D)
prediction by developing a few fully working prototypes addressing the needs of
decision makers in different sectors. The time horizon is set between a month and
a year ahead, with the aim of extending it towards the decadal scale.
Within the EUPORIAS project the candidate will do research on seasonal to
decadal predictions of user-oriented climate indices and the associated
uncertainties, based on historical observation and model output. Focus will be on
hydrological applications as well as the development and effective delivery of
(prototype) services.
In particular the candidate will:






analyze observational data, re-analyses and model output.
investigate and develop new user-oriented services based on S2D
predictions.
assess the skill of S2D predictions in terms of user-oriented variables.
Apart from the primary task above, the candidate will also contribute to:
assessments of climate variability and change in terms of climate
indicators.
related international research projects (e.g. UERRA and CHARMe).
the maintenance and development of the ECA&D/ICA&D system
(www.ecad.eu).
