The Stedelijk Museum houses one of the most
talked about collections of modern and contemporary art and design in the world, with 90,000 items,
from 1870 to today. With important movements such
as Bauhaus, the Amsterdam School, De Stijl,
CoBrA, abstract-expressionism, pop art, minimal art

Marlene Dumas – The image as Burden

Marlene Dumas (1953) is one of the most influential
artists of our time and she doesn’t shy away from
controversial subjects in her paintings and drawings.
The Stedelijk Museum is currently organising the
first large retrospective of Dumas in Europe in
twenty years with around 100 works from the period
1975 to 2013.

Henri Matisse (1868-1954) is one of the most significant artists of the twentieth century. Not only the
iconic paintings, also the monumental paper cut-out
The Parakeet and the Mermaid (1952-1953) take
central stage in this quirky exhibition - one of the
public’s favourites in the Stedelijk Museum collection. Textiles and stained-glass windows, works
which are seldom exhibited, can also be seen.

50 years after the historic NUL exhibitions in the
Stedelijk Museum (in 1962 and 1965), the Stedelijk
Museum is now presenting a grand historic overview
of this utopian network with artists like Otto Piene,
Jean Tinguely and Yves Klein.
MUSEUM SHOP
The Stedelijk Museum shop is the first outlet for the
renowned Buchhandlung Walther König in the
Netherlands. The product range includes books on
international art, design and photography, postcards, posters, presents, design products and
ornaments.
The museum shop is open daily from:
10:00 am - 18:00 pm and is open to the public
without entrance ticket.

The Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam is a must see.
It is the biggest museum of modern and contemporary art and design in the Netherlands.
The original building has recently been completely
renovated and extended with a spectacular new
wing, and since it reopened in 2012 it has been a
huge hit with visitors.
The Stedelijk offers top works of art from the greatest artists in the world, including a lot of work from
Dutch 20th Century artists.

The museum has elevators that
are suitable for wheelchairs and
disabled toilet facilities.
Wheelchairs can be reserved in
advance via Sales.

There is free WIFI throughout the
whole building.
ACCESS
On the Paulus Potterstraat (group
entrance) and Van Baerlestraat,
there is a free drop-off point
where buses may stop for a short
period to allow passengers to
disembark at the front of the
museum building. Buses can
park in the Museumplein
underground car park, Paulus
Potterstraat entrance.
DIRECTIONS
From the A10 ring road take the
S108 (Amstelveen) exit or S109
(RAI). Continue to follow
signposts for ‘Centrum’
Museumplein Car Park ‘Q-park’,
Van Baerlestraat entrance.
