SALÓN DE JUNIO MACHALA
SIXTH EDITION 2015
Artist Eligibility:
This competition is open to all Ecuadorian and foreign artists age 18 or older, living in Ecuador or in a
foreign country.
Artists living abroad should contact us for addtional application and shipping information
before submitting work.

Eligibility of Works:
Works may be two-dimensional but may contain some three dimensional elements as long as those
elements do not affect the condition of the work as a painting . All media is accepted and any theme may
be used. Work must be original and completed after July 2014. Work cannot have been previously
entered in a competition or displayed in an exhibition.
Each submitter can enter no more than two artworks.
- Each work must have a label with pertinent information securely attached to the back.
- An artwork may consist of several elements, as long as they are connected and have a united theme
(diptych, triptych, polyptych, series, etc.)
- Artwork must not exceed 74 inches on any side.
- Entered pieces must arrive in good conditions and ready for exhibition
- Unfinished works will not be accepted.
- The work submitted must be long lasting under adequate conditions.
The Centro Municipal de Arte y Cultura “Luz Victoria Ribera de Mora” (Art and Culture City Center) facilities are not fully flexible. Works must conform to the gallery space. Please understand that a meritorious work may be rejected if it is unable to be displayed or is too fragile for handling.
Modifications in the exhibit area or anywhere in the venue, required by a participant artist whose artwork
has been admitted to the exhibit, must be authorized by the Director of the Salon. Cost of modification
and any needed restoration of the space to the original state must be covered by the artist at the conclusion of the exhibit. The artist must submit all specifications for space modification in advance and will
be required to sign an agreement outlining these changes and a schedule for completing modifications
and making restorations. Consequences for noncompliance will be clearly stated in the written agreement.

Required documentation:
All submitters must send in an a4 folder containing the following documents:
Artist information:
- A resume, including date of birth, artistic education, and professional career achievements.
- A color photocopy of your Identification card (I.D.) or passport
- Full address, telephone number (cell phone and land phone if available), and e-mail (obligatory).
Artwork information:
- An artist statement about the submissions that explains any conceptual basis for the work. This text
would serve as a literary resource for the exhibition catalog and be used in gallery labels. Artwork
information labels must be completed as follows: Name of the artist, title, medium and techniques
used, surfaces and size (Height and width in centimeters).
- Requirements and instructions for mounting and displaying works.
- Photographs of the work printed on photographic paper, size a4 or 5R. Attach information labels to
the back of each photo.
Contest official application form:
- The application form can be downloaded at www.salondejuniomachala.com / www.machala.gob.ec.
- Each participant must complete and sign three copies of the application form. One has to be attached
to the back of the artwork, a second should be included in the folder along with other documentation,
and the third is for the participant's personal records. It will be required for reclaiming/returning
artwork.
Information about the participant in digital format:
-Two compact disks (CD’s) containing the following information:
- Resume (Word files)
- Artist statement and artwork information labels
- High resolution digital photographs of the works (JPG or TIFF format, 300 dpi not smaller than 10
inches per side).
- Artist publications and catalogs can be scanned and included in the CD. Neither original material nor
photocopies will be accepted.
- 4 JPG images of past works.
Delivery of artworks and folders:
- The starting date for entering this contest and reception of artwork will be from the date of publication
of this call at www.salondejuniomachala.com, the official site of the Salon.
- The deadline for entries is May 29th 2015, at 18h00. The Salon will not accept any entry after this date
and time.

- This call for entries will be published in newspapers in Quito, Guayaquil and Machala.
- Each participant must manage to deliver the actual physical artwork and documentation required to the
premises of the Municipal Center for Art and Culture "Luz Victoria Ribera de Mora". Email entries will not
be accepted.
- Expenses for shipping and handling of the works and folders to or from the Centro Municipal de Arte y
Cultura “Luz Victoria Ribera de Mora” must be covered by the participant.
- The Centro Municipal de Arte y Cultura “Luz Victoria Ribera de Mora” will handle every submitted piece
with special care, but will not assume any responsibility in case of lost or damaged property during the
shipping process or during the period of time the artwork remains within its facilities.
- Every participant must sign three copies of the official application form for each submitted piece. Otherwise, participation will be voided.
-The staff of the Centro Municipal de Arte y Cultura “Luz Victoria Ribera de Mora”, along with the director
of the Salon will verify that all the received works fulfill the participation requirements. Only works that
meet these requirements will be evaluated by the admission jury and, if selected, by the award jury.
- If the requested information about the artist is not complete or is missing, the participant will not be able
to participate in the Salón de Junio Machala.
- Works admitted will be published at the official web page of the Salon www.salondejuniomachala.com
and in the official catalog of the Salón de Junio Machala exhibit.
AWARDS:
The City Hall of Machala is granting $ 18.000.oo in prizes to the winners. Three prizes will be awarded:

SECOND PRIZE
THIRD PRIZE
USD $10.000.oo
USD $ 5.000.oo
USD $3.000.oo
- The three awarded artworks will become a property of the City Hall.
- The Jury will also grant several honorable mentions for other relevant works.
- In no case prizes will not be awarded
- The Jury’s decisions regarding the selection of the works of art and the award of prizes will be accepted
and adopted by the City Hall and the Centro Municipal de Arte y Cultura “Luz Victoria Ribera de Mora”.
About the selected work:
- By accepting these rules and regulations, selected artists are granting the Centro Municipal de Arte y
Cultura “Luz Victoria Ribera de Mora” the right to use works for promotion of the event and broadcasting
purposes or any other academic activity related to the Salon's cultural goals. The name of the creator of
any reproduced artwork will always be cited or stated.
- Before granting prizes to the winning artists, the winners must sign a written agreement in order to transfer the property rights of the awarded artwork to the City Hall of Machala (Gobierno Autónomo Descentralizado Municipal de Machala) represented in this case by the Centro Municipal de Arte y Cultura “Luz

Victoria Ribera de Mora”.
- Sales are not allowed for any exhibited work. The Salon will not be part of any business transaction within
the time the artwork remains under the care of the Center.
Exhibition:
- Once the admission jury and award jury have finished their role, the Centro Municipal de Arte y Cultura “Luz
Victoria Ribera de Mora” will coordinate with the Director of the Salon in order to display the selected
artwork in a public exhibit.
General guidelines:
- By entering this contest, artists accept all the conditions of the contest, and any additional necessary regulations imposed by the Salon. The jury's decision is final as are the rules and regulations of the contest.
Objections to the jury's selection or jury’s award will not be considered.
- Logistics and technical aspects not covered by these rules shall be resolved by the Director of the Salon.
