HANDS ON MATH Grade Explores Magnetism DISTRICT 86 COMMUNITY FAMILY FAIR Joliet Public Schools District 86 will host a Community Family Fair on Saturday, May 16 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lynne Thigpen Elementary School, 207 S. Midland Avenue. Activities will include District 86 2015-2016 student registration, community displays, presentations, entertainment, and concessions. Admission is free. After five days of PARCC testing, Sanchez 3rd graders utilized their knowledge of magnetism in a variety of hands-on scientific activities in the pod area. 4th Grade Explores Perimeter and Area The students in 4th grade created 15 shapes using painter's tape and floors tiles. The students enjoyed walking around the outside of each shape to find the perimeter and step inside each tile to find the area. Students also found the area and perimeter of objects and equipment on the playground. Connecting the real world with deep mathematical experiences has helped the 4th graders enjoy our mathematical computation unit! EVERYONE LEARNS IN MARCH! Sanchez Parents, Debra Kincy and Marsela Casimiro, attended the Superintendents’ Commission on Demographics and Diversity Conference on March 26, 2015 in Tinley Park, Illinois. The conference stressed the importance of the home and school connection. 2015-2016 STUDENT REGISTRATION Online student pre-registration is now available. We encourage you to pre-register your children for the 2015-2016 school year by visiting our website www.joliet86.org and clicking on 2015-2016 Student Registration. In order to utilize the online preregistration process, you must have a District 86 Parent Portal account. If you need to create a Parent Portal account, please stop by our school office. Online preregistration is currently only available in English, however, a Spanish language guide will be provided online to assist parents to complete the online preregistration process. For those who are unable to complete the online pre-registration process, blank registration forms in both English and Spanish are available on the website. Pre-registering your children online will save you a lot of time. Once you submit the online pre-registration forms, you must stop by our school office and bring your proofs of residency between the hours of 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, between April 8 and June 3. Registration is completed at our school when you bring your proofs of residency. Los estudiantes disfrutaron caminando alrededor de la parte exterior de cada forma para encontrar el perímetro y entraron en el interior de cada forma para encontrar el área. Los estudiantes también encontraron el área y el perímetro de los objetos y del equipo del patio de recreo.
