Was their marriage just an arrangement, a deal? Did his wife, after all these years, ever love him? Does she still? We need to know if our loving commitments stick. We need to be reminded and reaffirmed. In the first reading, Joshua, Moses’ successor, needed to know if the people would remain faithful to their covenant with the Lord. Joshua was going to lead them to a new life—a settled life. Would they be faithful? Jesus, who identified himself as the very life of his disciples’ life, needed to know: Will you also go away or will you stay? We do not often see Jesus this vulnerable. Peter and the apostles chose to stay. What will we do? TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — Joshua challenges the Israelites to serve either the Lord or other gods. They choose the Lord (Joshua 24:1-2a, 15-17, 18b). Psalm — Taste and see the goodness of the Lord (Psalm 34). Second Reading — Paul reflects on how husbands and wives should reverence and love each other (Ephesians 5:21-32 [2a, 25-32]). Gospel — Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life (John 6:60-69). Also known as CCD, and religious education, but why do we call it Faith Formation now? Faith formation is catechesis (teaching the faith) which aims deepen people’s contact with Jesus Christ via educational and enrichment opportunities. Designed to touch the intellect as well as the heart, this process help people live and experience a more Christ-centered life. The mission of Saint Joseph Faith Formation office, is to provide effective ways of catechesis for people of all ages and backgrounds, and in doing so we create a connection to the new evangelization envisioned by Second Vatican Council, the work of recent Popes, and the Catechism of the Catholic Church, which open the door to on-going conversion and a deep sense of a faith. Ultimately, faith formation is oriented toward the question: How do I practically and authentically live the Catholic faith? At St. Joseph’s, groups like the RCIA, Bible study, adult faith formation meetings, Sunday Session Kinder through 8th grade and High School Faith Development, are the tools to help us better understand the heart and mind of Jesus Christ and His sacrament, the Catholic Church. And in so doing, we are better able to share with others, to evangelize, our understanding of our Catholic faith. ANNOUNCEMENTS: How do I register or sign up for these groups? Start by calling or email Erika at (650) 691-1525 she can guide you to the group that best fits your needs. Our Sunday Session Kinder through 8th grade now has Open Enrollment. Pocas veces vemos a Jesús tan vulnerable. Pedro y los apóstoles escogieron quedarse. ¿Qué vamos a hacer nosotros? (Juan 6:60-69).
