Give thanks more Christians can now be fed with the bread of Heaven and drink from the cup of salvation. This would not happen without the devoted service of the Catechists and volunteers who prepare the children for Christ’s Banquet. We also wish to thank everyone who helped out with the Communion Breakfast on April 26 as well as the Chateau Restaurant and the Dunkin Donuts on Lexington Street for catering the breakfast once again this year. Below is a list of the names of the children who received the Eucharist for their first time. May they never hunger or thirst again. Fr. David L., Jimmy, Anne, Irma, Maureen, Marie, Jeanne, Patricia, Libby, Dave A., Nicholas, Catherine, Kim, Dorotea, Joan Fitzmaurice; all the sick & suffering ST. VINCENT de PAUL In the Gospel today, Jesus says to us, “This is my commandment: love one another as I have loved you…You are my friends if you do what I command you.” In the life of Mother Teresa, the Two Commandments – to love God and to love our neighbor – were inseparable. In her life and work, she exemplified the relationship between the two. How, if we do not love God we cannot love our neighbor, and if we do not love our neighbor, we cannot love God. Happy Mother’s Day to all our loving mothers who taught us how to love. Lord we pray for St. Mary’s Vincentians. Grant them the grace to reflect the light and love of God. Lord we pray for all Vincentians in the world. Grant them the grace to be kind and loving. Amen. Sixth Sunday of Easter 3 Santa María de Waltham 10 de Mayo de 2015 ASCENSION THURSDAY – MAY 14 The great feast of the Ascension is this month - May 14. Ascension Thursday is a holy day of obligation. Masses are scheduled as follows: ST MARY 12:10 p.m. 7:00 p.m. (Spanish) ST CHARLES 7:30 a.m. 7:00 p.m. Forty days after rising from the grave, Jesus Christ ascended back up into heaven. Our faith is in the risen Lord, yet it doesn’t stop with our contemplating the resurrection. It continues towards our destiny – heaven. Seek the things that are above! The Ascension does not point to Jesus’ absence, but tells us that he is alive in our midst in a new way. He is no longer in a specific place in the world as he was before the Ascension. He is now in the lordship of God, present in every space and time, close to each one of us. In our life we are never alone: we have this Advocate who awaits us, who defends us. We are never alone: the Crucified and Risen Lord guides us. We have with us a multitude of brothers and sisters who, in silence and concealment, in their family life and at work, in their problems and hardships, in their joys and hopes, live faith daily and together with us bring the world the lordship of God’s love, in the Risen Jesus Christ, ascended into Heaven, our own Advocate who pleads for us. In honor of this Year of Consecrated Life, we are including a brief teaching on different aspects of Consecrated Life in the bulletin. THIS WEEK: ORDER OF VIRGINS. Since the Apostolic times, the Church has recognized women who wanted to consecrate their lives to God. The consecration is considered a sacramental rather than a sacrament. This beautiful way of life had basically been forgotten about but was restored by the Second Vatican Council on May 31, 1970. Through this sacramental, the virgin, after renewing her promise of perpetual virginity to God, is recognized as a sacred person belonging only to Christ. The Lord God is consecrated to God alone – not to a religious superior. By this formal and public act, the consecrated virgin becomes a living image of the Church’s love for her Spouse Jesus Christ. The consecrated Virgin live and works in the world. She attends Mass daily, prays the Divine Office and spends much time in personal prayer. A consecrated Virgin is not required to work for a parish or church-affiliated organization or take on extra responsibilities, though many do catechetical and charitable work in their parishes or local communities. There are approximately 3,000 Consecrated Virgins in the world today. Any Catholic woman (unmarried) who wants to give her life to God but knows they are not called to live in a religious community is encouraged to pray over this and speak to someone in the parish or the local Church about their desire. The priests are available and are also able to listen and guide you to others who are more knowledgeable about this way of life. Let us pray for those women among us who God has given the insight, freedom and knowledge to be consecrated to God’s goodness and mercy. Sexto Domingo de Pascua St. Mary Parish, Waltham May 10, 2015 SCRIPTURE OF THE WEEK We encourage everyone to continue reading the Acts of the Apostles this week … ACTS OF THE APOSTLES – CHAPTER 20 PART 4 Paul’s Farewell Speech at Miletus. From Miletus he had the presbyters of the church at Ephesus summoned. When they came to him, he addressed them, “You know how I lived among you the whole time from the day I first came to the province of Asia. I served the Lord with all humility and with the tears and trials that came to me because of the plots of the Jews, and I did not at all shrink from telling you what was for your benefit, or from teaching you in public or in your homes. I earnestly bore witness for both Jews and Greeks to repentance before God and to faith in our Lord Jesus. But now, compelled by the Spirit, I am going to Jerusalem. What will happen to me there I do not know, except that in one city after another the holy Spirit has been warning me that imprisonment and hardships await me. Yet I consider life of no importance to me, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to bear witness to the gospel of God’s grace. The text is taken from the Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. • What is the link between the actions and the words in the celebration of the sacraments? Actions and words are very closely linked in the celebration of the sacraments. Indeed, even if the symbolic actions are already in themselves a language, it is necessary that the words of the rite accompany and give life to these actions. The liturgical words and actions are inseparable both insofar as they are meaningful signs and insofar as they bring about what they signify. 25th AND 50th WEDDING ANNIVERSARY MASS His Eminence, Sean Cardinal O’Malley, OFM invites all couple celebrating their 25th or 50th wedding anniversary in 2015 to the Silver and Golden Wedding Anniversary Mass at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross. MARY'S What a different world it would be if more men dedicated themselves to holiness and embraced their role as their family’s spiritual leader. The Men of St. Joseph (MOSJ) meets every Saturday at 7:00 a.m. in the Religious Education building. Gatherings include morning prayer from the Magnificat, a reading of the upcoming Gospel, and a brief discussion with regard to the challenges men face living a life of faith in a secular world. The purpose of the MOSJ is to instill holiness in men and facilitate spiritual leadership in family and community life. There is no formal time commitment or service component associated with this group. The aim of an early Saturday morning meeting is so that participation will not hinder a man’s time commitment to family, work or social activities.
