豊かな自然が残されている身近な地域の再発見を次世代に継承し

て、小学生が看板作りや植樹に参加し気持ちの良いハイキングコー
になる活動として広めていきたい。
Tsukui Nature Conservation Society has long been involved in efforts
to rediscover and preserve nature in close-by environments, and this
year marks their 15th year in action. Their mission has included tackling
illegal dumping in the Takeyama Mountain, as well as the protection and
restoration of fireflies’ wild habitats. Through the years they have achieved
numerous accomplishments, including removal of abandoned cars and
other large garbage accumulated along hiking paths and valley floor by
the city after a 10-year appeal, involving citizens to pick up other smaller
trash, and rallying elementary school children in creating signs and planting
trees, refurbishing the hiking course into clean and pleasant foot paths.
Three years ago, they undertook a project to help restore rice paddies
deserted for 40 years, as habitats for fireflies and other aquatic organisms,
obtaining permission from individual landowners. With cooperation from
farmers and other groups, project participants experienced first hand the
planting, harvest, and husking of the rice crop, as well as the painstaking
labor of farming. The group has also hosted numerous activities fitted to the
integrated learning period of elementary schools, working towards further
development of the area together with the community, making the region an
even more pleasant place to live for all. It is their hope to continue in their
effort, to be an opportunity for more to become connected with nature and
become involved in the community.
藤前干潟を守る会は、藤前干潟を名古屋市のゴミ処分場建設計画か
ら守るために 1987 年に活動を開始し、2002 年にはラムサール条約登
録を果たした。2003 年から NPO 法人として活動している。
会では、干潟の保全の歴史を伝えるとともに、環境保全のメッセー
ジを多くの人に伝え、干潟とその流域の生物多様性を保全する活動を
展開している。
このたび受賞となったガタレンジャーの養成活動はその一つであ
り、
「いのちのつながりを次の世代に伝えたい」というおもいを込めた
環境教育の取組みである。ガタレンジャーとは、
「干潟のレンジャー」
、
という意味で、干潟の自然や生き物についての知識や調査や案内の技
術を身につけたボランティアガイドを育成している。また、ガタレン
ジャー Jr. は子ども向けの環境学習プログラムであり、一年を通じて干
潟の自然と生きものを体感し、自ら「気づき・考え・行動する」子ど
もが育っている。
Fujimae Ramsar Society (formerly known as Save Fujimae Association)
was founded in 1987 to protect Nagoya’s Fujimae Higata (Fujimae Tidal
Flat). Registered as a Ramsar Site in 2002, it has been an incorporated
non-profit organization since 2003. From its beginnings, the organization
continues to educate the public of the history of the Fujimae Higata,
alongside the importance of environmental conservation, running various
programs for the protection of biodiversity around the tidal flat. The GataRanger Training Program is one such environmental conservation program,
through which the group strongly hopes to convey the importance of
coexistence to the next generation. The name Gata-Ranger was created by
connecting the words higata and ranger. The rangers serve as volunteer
guides equipped with the knowledge and the ability to research and navigate
visitors through Fujimae Higata. The complementing Gata-Ranger Jr.
Training Program is aimed for children to learn about the environment. In
the program the children experience nature and its inhabitants in the higata
throughout the year. Through the program, the group has proudly observed
many children learning how to discover, think, and act independently.

第３回の表彰式は、2005 年から 2014 年までの 10 年間を国連「持続可能な開発のため教育（ESD）の 10
年」とすることが国連総会で採択され、最終年にあたる本年は、提唱国である日本（愛知県名古屋市及び岡山
県岡山市）において、
「持続可能な開発のための教育 (ESD) に関するユネスコ世界会議」が開催されたことから、
この併催イベント「あいち・なごや ESD 交流フェスタ」内において、一般公開で開催した。
また、生物多様性の問題は、企業活動のみではなく、市民活動も、重要かつ必要不可欠なものであることから、
当コンテスト協力団体により高く評価された市民活動についても、紹介・表彰した。
This year marks 10 years (2005-2014) of UN Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) adopted by the UN General
Assembly, and on this final year of the ESD decade, Japan, the proposing country of the initiative, hosted the UNESCO
Conference on ESD held in Aichi and Okayama. The Awards Ceremony for the 3rd Contest for Corporate Activities on
Biodiversity took place open to the general public in a parallel event to the conference, Aichi-Nagoya ESD Exchange Festa.
With realization that civic activities are essentially imperative in resolving issues surrounding biodiversity, as corporations
cannot tackle them alone, outstanding activities highly praised by our collaborative partners were also given recognition and
their work introduced at the ceremony.
