abseits aller ausgetretenen Pfade begeben Sie sich mit mir auf eine Entdeckungs
tour. Seit dem Jahr 2000 darf ich für Sie Weine empfehlen. Damit Sie an Bord eine
hervorragende Auswahl haben, verkoste ich zusammen mit einem Expertenteam
jedes Jahr eine Vielzahl von Weinen. Meine Weinreise führt mich dabei in berühmte
Lagen, aber auch in bisher wenig bekannte Regionen. Und diese besonderen
Tropfen möchte ich Ihnen zukünftig unter der Rubrik „off the beaten track“ vorstellen.
Es handelt sich dabei um Spezialitäten und echte Geheimtipps. Ab sofort bieten
wir Ihnen zusätzlich jeweils einen Weißwein und einen Rotwein an, zum Rein
schmecken und Entdecken.
Mit dem 2010 Penfolds Bin 389 servieren wir Ihnen einen Wein „off the beaten
track“, der Ihnen die Sonne Australiens ins Glas zaubern wird. Der 2012 Magrè
Chardonnay aus Südtirol stellt Ihnen den innovativen Geist der Winzer am Fuß

Leaving known roads behind to discover excitement. Entering unknown territory
instead of following old paths. Off the beaten track is precisely where Lufthansa
are heading with the presentation of their new and even wider selection of on-board
wines. And for even more variation, our wine list will change monthly, so that you
can join me on a journey of discovery. I have been making wine recommendations
for you since 2000. My team of experts and I taste a great number of wines every
year to ensure that you have an excellent variety on board. This journey of wine
tasting takes me to both famous sites and hitherto less known regions. And it is
these wines that I wish to present to you in the future under the rubric “off the
beaten track”. These are specialties and true insiders‘ tips. From now on, we are
also pleased to offer you both a white and a red wine to taste and discover.
With the 2010 Penfolds Bin 389 we are serving you an “off the beaten track” wine
which conjures up Australian sunshine in your glass, while the Magrè Chardonnay
2012 from the Alto Adige shows off the innovative spirit of the wine producers based
at the foot of the Dolomites. These are truly delightful and surprising wines.

Nur in besonderen Jahrgängen präsen
tiert das legendäre Champagnerhaus
eine Jahrgangscuvée. Ausschließlich
Chardonnay Grand Cru der Côtes de
Blancs und Pinot Noir Grand Cru der
Montagne de Reims und des vorderen
Marnetals finden in dieser Cuvée zu
sammen. Sie zeichnet sich aus durch
Eleganz und Komplexität, feine Brioche
noten, Röstaromen und reife Gelb
frucht sowie einem ausgezeichneten
Mousseux.

The legendary Champagne house
Taittinger only brings out vintage cuvees
in special vintages. In this cuvee consists
entirely of Chardonnay Grand Cru from
the Côtes de Blancs and Pinot Noir
Grand Cru from the Montagne de Reims
and the top of the Marne Valley. It is a
most distinguished Champagne with
elegance and complexity, subtle hints
of brioche, toasty notes and ripe yellow
fruit, as well as a stunning mousse.

This family wine estate has enjoyed
favourable winegrowing conditions
since 1838. In the gentle climate of the
Mittelhaardt even fig and almond trees
can thrive and the many different soil
types in the region make their mark on
every wine. This Riesling is an excellent
example with its juicy apricot and citrus
fruit balanced with elegant acidity.
2013 Simonsberg Paarl Chardonnay

Noch ein Geheimtipp ist das 1989
gegründete Gut der Familie Bouma.
Diese talentierte Winzerfamilie bringt
den Charakter der Urgesteinsböden
am Simonsberg in ihren Weinen perfekt
zur Geltung. Ein besonderer Tropfen
mit Anklängen von Ananas und Zitrus
frucht sowie feiner Holzwürze und
Röstaromen.
The Bourma family estate, set up in
1989, is another insider tip. This talent
ed winemaking family accentuates the
character of the ancient soils of the
Simonsberg in their wines perfectly.
The resultant wine is very special with
hints of pineapple and citrus fruit as
well as subtle oak spiciness and toasty
aromas.
2014 Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc,
Spy Valley, Neuseeland
Off the beaten track
Auf steinigen Terrassen im Wairau Valley
gedeihen die Sauvignon-Reben der
Winzerfamilie Johnson. Das gemäßigte
Klima mit intensivem Sonnenlicht und
kühlen Nächten prägt den Charakter
dieses Weines mit seinen exotischen
Fruchtnoten, die an Guava und Mango,
Grapefruit und Honigmelone erinnern.
The Sauvignon vines belonging to the
Johnson family flourish on the stony
terraces in the Wairau Valley. The
moderate climate with intense sunlight
and cool nights shapes the character
of this wine with its exotic fruit aromas
reminiscent of guava, mango, grapefruit
and honeydew melon.

Aromen von Aprikose, Williamsbirne
und Ananas, feine Zitrusnoten und ein
Hauch von Holzwürze: Dieser Wein von
Kellermeister Harald Schraffl zeigt, dass
seine Idee, mit der Natur und deren
Ressourcen respektvoll umzugehen, in
erstklassigen Gewächsen endet. Dieser
Betrieb mit 140 Winzern zählt zu den
führenden Weinerzeugern Südtirols.
Flavours of apricot, pear and pineapple,
elegant notes of citrus and a touch of
oak spiciness: this wine from cellar
master Harald Schraffl shows that his
idea of handling nature and natural
resources with respect can result in
top class wines. This makes this winery
with its 140 growers one of the leading
wine producers in the Alto Adige.

Die hervorragende Weingutsmannschaft
von Château Belgrave dürfte mit diesem
Grand Cru einen der schönsten HautMédocs kreiert haben. Am Gaumen
präsentiert sich die Cuvée saftig und
aromenreich, mit dezenter Würze und
seidigen Tanninen. Durch eine gut aus
balancierte Länge überzeugt er auf der
ganzen Linie.
The excellent winery team from Château
Belgrave have probably created one of
the greatest Haut-Médocs with this
Grand Cru. On the palate this cuvée
presents itself both lush and aromatic,
with a delicate spiciness and silky tan
nins. Topped off with a well-balanced
and pleasant length, it impresses in
every respect.
2008 Tignanello, Toscana IGT,
Marchese Antinori, Italien
Er stand am Anfang aller Super-Tuscans:
Tignanello. Er war der erste Wein, bei
dem Sangiovese im Barrique verfeinert
wurde und mit den Rebsorten CabernetSauvignon und Cabernet-Franc cuvetiert
wurde. Ein eleganter Wein mit Himbeerund Brombeernoten, einem Hauch
Lakritz und feiner Holzwürze.
Tignanello was there right from the start
of the Super-Tuscans and was actually
the first wine in which Sangiovese was
not only matured in barrique but also
blended with varieties such as Cabernet
Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. An
elegant wine with notes of raspberry
and blackberry as well as a touch of
liquorice and fine oak spiciness.
2008 Burgenland „Arachon Evolution“,
T FX T, Österreich
T. Szemes, F.X. Pichler and M. Tement
decided to create a new cuvee, in co
operation with the Horitschon. Grand
consisting of the classic grape variety
Blaufränkisch, complemented by Merlot,
Cabernet Sauvignon and Zweigelt. A
representative wine of this region, with
peppery spiciness, hints of chocolate,
juicy blackberry and cassis.
2010 Bin 389 Cabernet-Sauvignon –
Shiraz, Penfolds, Australien
Penfolds hat mit seinem Grange in den
fünfziger Jahren Geschichte geschrieben.
Bin 389 wird gerne als „Baby Grange“
bezeichnet. Kellermeister Peter Gago ist
sicher: „…über alle Jahrgänge hinweg,
Bin 389 überzeugt immer, denn er profi
tiert von über einem halben Jahrhundert
Erfahrung“. Ein Wein mit intensiven
Fruchtaromen, Holzwürze, kraftvollen
Röstaromen und ausgezeichneter Länge.
Penfolds made history in the Fifties with
Grange. Bin 389 is fondly described as
“Baby Grange”. For this wine, winemaker
Peter Gago is convinced that “through
thick and thin, across all vintages, Bin
389 always delivers – benefitting from
over half a century of practice.” A wine
with intense fruit flavours, obvious oak
spiciness, powerful toasty notes and
superb length.

T. Szemes, F.X. Pichler und M. Tement
haben mit den Vereinten Winzern
Horitschon eine neue Cuvée kreiert:
aus der Traditionsrebsorte Blaufrän
kisch, ergänzt durch Merlot, CabernetSauvignon und Zweigelt. Ein typischer
Vertreter dieser Region. Mit pfeffriger
Würze, Anklängen von Schokolade
und saftiger Brombeere sowie Cassis.

Weingut Neef-Emmich, Deutschland
„Guter Wein beginnt im Weinberg.
Wenn er sich hier wohl fühlt, schmeckt
man das später“ meint Spitzenwinzer
Dirk Emmich. Er scheut während des
Winzerjahres keinen Aufwand, um im
Herbst beste Trauben zu lesen. Der
Erfolg gibt ihm Recht, beispielsweise
mit diesem edelsüßen Gewächs,
dessen Duft an Orangenblüten, reife
Pfirsiche, exotische Mango und Ananas
erinnert. Ein opulent-saftiger Genuss
mit hervorragendem Mundgefühl.
Top grower Dirk Emmich believes „good
wine is made in the vineyard. If all the
conditions are right here, you can taste
it later in the wine.” He does not shy
away from any efforts during the course
of the wine year in order to harvest only
the very best grapes in the autumn.
Success is his reward, as this botrytised
wine demonstrates. It has a bouquet
reminiscent of orange blossom, ripe
peaches, exotic mango as well as
pineapple and is an opulent yet juicy
wine with outstanding mouthfeel.
