A message from the Grand Coulee United Church: The Community Carol Night will be held in the community hall on Sunday December 21st at 6:00 PM with a social time following. Please take some time out of this busy season to come enjoy some Christmas music and share some festive baking over a cup of hot chocolate while you visit your neighbors. Congratulations! Tavis Tyson Daylen We had the wonderful opportunity to have Anna Zirk coach a gymnastics session after school on December 4th. We want to wish Anna all the best in her upcoming trip to the World Gymnaestrada in Finland in 2015. Good luck, Anna! Thank you to the SNSCC for the special lunch day! Thank you for all the support during our Book Fair! Sales totaled $1830.05, resulting in $860 worth of books and resources back into our Resource Centre. Thank you, thank you!! Thank you to Mrs. Bohay and Mrs. Curtis for organizing and working the book fair. Ellia won the draw prize of $25 of books for her and her classroom. Congratulations! SNS travelled to Pense Elementary School on November 27th to attend a concert by Bob King. Several students were called up on stage to help sing some of our favourites, such as Sandwiches, Popcorn, Two Wrongs Don’t Make a Right and The Rhyming Dictionary. We enjoyed the Mackenzie Art Gallery exhibit 60 Years: How We Filled the Vault. The students had a wonderful time during the Mackenzie Art Gallery workshops. On the first day, he explained how different people see different things in art. On the second day, the students had the opportunity to make a collage and recreate art using props and a painting as a backdrop. Thank you to those that came out in the evening to see the exhibition. Our Christmas concert production was a great success! Special thanks to Mrs. Hill, Mrs. Love, Miss Stephenson, our cast, Mr. Jacklin and our band, Mrs. Faucher , Mr. Koskie and the TECH team, classroom teachers and all the students. Also, special thanks to everyone who came to be part of our audience. The month of December kicked off with a Practical and Applied Arts day for Grades 7 and 8 students. Students sewed a Christmas tree ornament and prepared strawberry muffins. On December 3rd Prairie Valley School Division hosted a Student Leadership Conference at Indian Head High School. Six students from grades 6 to 8 were selected to attend this special event. The grades 7 and 8 class sold holiday rafiki chains to support Free the Children. Half of the money from the sale of each rafiki went to the mama in Kenya in that made the chain and half of the money went to Free the Children activities in communities around the world. The Mackenzie Art Gallery brought an exhibit called 60 Years: How We Filled the Vault to Stewart Nicks School. Grades 7 and 8 students created collages from magazines and designed landscapes The Grades 7 and 8 class took Emergency First Aid training on December 15 and 16. Students practiced scene survey and provided life saving CPR. Instruction was provided by Colin Frey from Pense. We are continuing to collect them for valuable school resources. Simply drop it in the label basket outside Mrs. Croteau’s office. Facility Use As you may be aware, our new caretaker, Mrs. Kezama works part-time (5:30 AM to 9:30 AM). As she does not reside in the community and is unavailable in the evenings to open and close the school for special events, accessing the facility outside of instructional hours will not always be possible. However, community groups with appropriate and adequate insurance in place may apply to use Stewart Nicks School for various functions, providing all criteria are met. Please contact the school at least 2 weeks prior to your event. All requests must be approved by Prairie Valley School Division #208 in advance. Appropriate and adequate insurance MUST be in place.
