Dear Residents Families & Friends, “The love of family and the admiration of friends is much more important than wealth and privilege.” Charles Kuralt 10 Five-Minute Decluttering Tips to Start Conquering Your Mess Leo Babauta Zen Habits When your home is filled with clutter, trying to tackle a mountain of stuff can be quite overwhelming. So here’s my advice: start with just five minutes. Baby steps are important. Sure, five minutes won’t barely make a dent in your mountain, but it’s a start. Celebrate when you’ve made that start! Then take another five minutes tomorrow. And another the next day. Before you know it, you’ll have cleared a whole closet or a room and then half your house and then … who knows? “Three Rules of Work: Out of clutter find simplicity; From discord find harmony; In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity.” - Albert Einstein 3. Clear off a counter. Clear off everything possible, except maybe one or two essential things. 4. Pick a shelf. Just one shelf! Clear all nonessential things and leave it looking neat and clutterfree 5. Schedule a decluttering appointment. Ask family or friends to help. 6. Pick up 5 things, and find places for them. These are things that you use but have no assigned storage place for them. 7. Spend a few minutes visualizing the room. Once I’ve visualized how the room will look uncluttered, and figured out what is essential, I get rid of the rest. 8. Fill a box for charity. WHV can help you arrange for pickup. 10. Learn to love the uncluttered look! Five Health and Wellness Tips to Start You Off Right in 2015 International Business Times 1. Quit bad habits: Quit smoking, drinking and taking harmful substances. If the habit has been existent for several decades, it will be ideal to first accept that you have a health problem or have trouble quitting completely. Tap support groups, websites and family members to successfully get rid of the bad habit for life. 2. Go for a checkup One of the first steps for 2015 is to have a thorough physical assessment to determine if you have underlying problems that might not have presented symptoms yet. Have a physician check your blood pressure, cholesterol level, 1. Designate a spot for incoming papers. Papers often account for a lot of our clutter. Designate an in-box tray or spot in your home and don’t put down papers anywhere but that spot. 2. Start clearing a starting zone. What you want to do is clear one area. This is your no-clutter zone. Wherever you start, make a rule: nothing can be placed there that’s not actually in use. Everything must be put away. Once you have that clutter-free zone, keep it that way! Each day, slowly expand your no-clutter zone until it envelopes the whole house! News from Jen Melton LPN– In the Wellness Center body mass index and blood sugar. Also go through other tests like a colonoscopy or mammogram. Learning about health risks will encourage you to stick to a healthy diet and strict exercise regimen. “We don’t need to increase our goods nearly as much as we need to scale down our wants. Not wanting something is as good as possessing it.” - Donald Horban ANNUAL DEEP CLEAN! We will begin our annual deep clean plan in January. Each apartment will be thoroughly cleaned up to and including cleaning the carpet and painting. This will be the perfect time to get rid of unwanted/needed items and de-clutter! Family Participation is appreciated! NIGHT TIME EMERGENCY Call # 777-6396 3. Start eating fruits and vegetables Remove unhealthy foods and junk from your diet. Fruits and vegetables will provide you with nutrients, vitamins and minerals that will prevent disease and reduce fat. These also keep you full so you do not develop hunger pangs and sugar cravings. 4. Sleep better One of the best health tips for 2015 is that you get adequate sleep each night to reduce stress and fight fat. Getting sufficient rest periods every night and occasional naps will improve focus, memory and learning. 5. Exercise Embark on an exercise program. Start with a realistic goal especially if you have been sedentary for a long time. Try walking for 30 minutes in your neighborhood two to three times a week. Gradually increase the intensity or try another form of activity like Chair Zumba after a month or so. Look for an activity that you personally enjoy so you can stick to the program permanently. “Youth is when you're allowed to stay up late on New Year's Eve. Middle age is when you're forced to. An optimist stays up until midnight to see the new year in. A pessimist stays up to make sure the old year leaves.” Billy Vaughn Resident Spotlight: Ruth DeHay From the Kitchen with Karen: Ruth was born and raised in Massachusetts. She attended Symmes Arlington Medical School and graduated as a Registered Nurse. She met and married her husband at a delicatessen in Boston. Their wedding day was the same day that President Franklin Roosevelt died. After several years in Massachusetts, the DeHay’s moved back to Mr. DeHay’s home town of Charleston, SC to take care of his terminally ill mother. Ruth asked for a leave of absence from her job before they moved, and then never went back. Several years later, in the 60’s, Ruth and her husband came to Pensacola simply to visit, but ended up buying a house – she has been here ever since. She was a volunteer in the area for 20 years. Five years after her husband passed, Ruth moved to Tranquil Villas. That was in 2001. Recently Mrs. DeHay joined us here at Wesley Haven Villa! She said it was a wonderful decision coming here. Ruth has 2 daughters, 5 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren! We are pleased to have her as a part of our community – better thought of as our “Wesley Haven Family”, please take a moment to welcome Mrs. Ruth DeHay!
