CATECHETICAL MINISTRY:
FAITH FORMATION & EDUCATION
FEAST OF THE HOLY FAMILY: LUKE 2:22-40
We are all destined to live in families: the great human family, the families into which we were born, the families we may choose through marriage or friendship. Jesus was no exception. Jesus’ family, like most of
ours, was not a family of great privilege. They fulfilled the ritual requirements of Judaism and returned to their simple lives in Nazareth. There,
we can presume, they followed the sometimes difficult call to honor,
love and respect one another ... just like us.
MARY, MOTHER OF GOD: NEW YEAR’S DAY (JAN. 1, 2015)
We begin this year remembering God’s unending blessings
upon us throughout history.
Our focus today is on Mary, the “Mother of God.”
Mass will be at 9am on this Holy Day of Obligation.

SUNDAY REFLECTION: by Bill Perry , Social Justice Ministry
Feast of the Holy Family
We have generational tradition with the Fathers in our family. When going
out to lunch, the older generation always pays. My Grandfather paid for
my Dad, My Dad pays for me and I pay for my son. Not that my 8 year old
grandson could pay for lunch, my son pays for his meals. The bible tells
us that "Whoever reveres his father will live a long life". In our
family the Father in question reveres his Father by paying for his son
just as he was favored by his Father. God the Father gave us spiritual
life, but without our earthly Fathers, we wouldn't be here.
We know how we should treat our fathers. But many of us have to admit
that our relationships with them is far from the ideal. But there are
many ways to honor our fathers. Maybe we could him a note on his
birthday. Perhaps, praying for him could soften both his heart and
yours.
God knows that no one is perfect. That's what Christmas is all about.
Jesus was born so that we could repair our broken relationship with
our heavenly Father. He gives us the same power to repair our broken
relationship with our earthly fathers. By calling on the holy spirit
we can draw closer to the example of Holy Family.
