ABOUT THE ORGANISER
Amrita Viswa Vidyapeetham University (A multi-campus university re-accredited by NAAC with
“A grade” and CGPA of 3.4 on a 4 point scale) has the mission to provide value-based education
and mould the character of the younger generation through a system of wholesome learning, so
that their earnest endeavour to achieve progress and prosperity in life is matched by an ardent
desire to extend selfless service to society, one complementing the other. Thus, the university‘s
activities are based upon a deep understanding of our values and culture. This is in alignment
with the educational outlook of our Chancellor, namely, - “Education for life, not just education
for a living.”
Amrita School of Arts and Sciences (ASAS) located in the sprawling and serene Brahmasthanam
Temple Complex at Edappally, Kochi, on the main NH-17, is leaping towards boundless glory
and fame.
The Three day hands on workshop cum seminar is organized by the Department of Visual Media
and Communication and Computer Society of India (CSI) student branch of the ASAS campus.
The Department of Visual Media and Communication offers Masters Degree Programmes in
Journalism and Mass Communication (Specialisation: Video Production and Broadcasting),
Master of Fine Arts (in Three Specialisations : Animation and Content Management, Applied
Art and Advertising and Digital Film Making). The department also offers a bachelors degree
programme B.Sc. degree in Visual Media. The department is endowed with veteran professors,
seasoned media and film making experts as faculty from both industry and academics. The
department has a media lab with state of the art Multimedia workstations, fully equipped studios
for audio/video production and industry standard equipment for practical oriented learning.
ABOUT THE SEMINAR
The seminar aims at exploring the various facets of Web technology with special emphasis on
the creation of table less websites. Traditionally, web pages have been built using HTML with
tables to layout the page structure and content. These cell based tables are very similar in form
to a table found in Excel spreadsheets and Word documents. An advantage of using tables is
that it closely mimics the standard page layout in print media such as newspapers or magazine
articles. However as web technology has advanced and become more dynamic a new era of
design with greater possibilities has emerged. A new approach to design and layout of web
pages is being created to break the constraints of structured table layouts. This approach is
called CSS table less design.
CSS table less design is a great method for developing modern websites and offers many valuable
advantages over traditional table based design. CSS tableless design will provide the website
visitors better usability and accessibility, faster page load times with greater, more elegant
design possibilities. For the web developer and website owner, CSS tableless websites are easier
and less expensive to redesign, update and maintain. When given a choice, CSS table less design
will be the best option for majority of the present day website designs.
The workshop has been designed to effectively prepare the students for developing table less
Websites.
