Weekly Reflection
GOD'S WORD TODAY
Today's readings remind us not to discourage those
who misunderstand the real meaning of Christ and Christmas,
but to instead use the opportunity for welcome and conversion. The Church especially chose these readings because she
sees in them symbols of the universality of God's people. "Lift
up your eyes and look around: all are assembling and coming
toward you" the prophet says. Are we to turn away or belittle
any who come to find the Lord, in whatever small way?
Saint Paul, in the second reading, reminds us that as Gentiles,
we too, come from pagan roots and were once misunderstood.
Yet we, too, have been welcomed. We now share the same
inheritance, are part of the same body of Christ. The Christmas
season is not the time to turn away anybody. Rather, it is the
time to be catholic, that is, accepting of all.

LA PALABRA DE DIOS HOY
Si has estado con niños seguramente has
notado que sus vidas son epifanías diarias, en las
que una revelación sigue a otras mientras crecen en
admiración de sí mismos, de la vida y de Dios.

If you've ever been around young children, you know their
lives are daily epiphanies, when one revelation builds on the
next as they grow in continuous awe of their own selves, life,
and God.
For children, life itself is like the star that filled with delight
the wise men who visited the infant Jesus. Some daily revelations from the mouths of babes include:

"Wind moves air."
"Potatoes grow roots."
"Ants are strong."
"Snow sticks together."

How lucky the wise men were to see God incarnate face to
face. Nevertheless, we should not diminish our own unique
and privileged perspective to be able to observe this scene of a
baby with his mother and know that he is indeed the One who
has brought salvation to all. We can return to today's Gospel
from the perspective of an awe-filled child, and then do the
same for the rest of your week. Look anew at all of God's wonders and see God incarnate right before your eyes in birds that
eat bugs, in wind that moves air, in snow that sticks together,
and in the children who call our attention to these events.

Memorial mass for Anna Galek,
Mother of Father Peter & Father Adam
On the 1st of January it will have been 2 months since my
mom, Anna Galek, passed away. Many people have asked me about
the memorial Mass for her soul because they could not participate at
the funeral in Poland. For this reason on January 5th in our Church,
St. Colette, at 7:00PM we will have a Memorial Mass for her soul.
This Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Andrew Wypych. The Mass
will be bilingual: English and Polish and after the Mass their will be
refreshments in Halpin Hall. Anyone who would like to participate in
this Mass is invited and welcome to do so.
May her soul rest in peace,

Los Reyes Magos y sus tres regalos
San Mateo registró que los Reyes Magos trajeron
tres dones, cada uno también tienen un significado
profético: el oro, el regalo de un rey; incienso, el don de un
sacerdote; y mirra - un ungüento de entierro, un regalo para
uno que iba a morir. San Ireneo (. D 202) en su “Adversus
haereses” ofreció la siguiente interpretación de los dones de
oro, incienso y mirra, respectivamente: el rey, Dios y el
sufrimiento redentor, así como la virtud, la oración y el
sufrimiento.
A pesar de que algún misterio permanece a la
identidad de los Reyes Magos, la Iglesia respeta su acto de
adoración: El Concilio de Trento, cuando lo que subraya la
reverencia que se debe dar a la Santa Eucaristía, decretó:
"Los fieles de Cristo veneran este Santísimo Sacramento
con la adoración de latría que se debe al verdadero Dios....
Porque en este sacramento creemos que el mismo Dios está
presente a quien el Padre eterno trajo al mundo, diciendo de
él: "que todos los ángeles de Dios lo adoren." Es el mismo
Dios a quien los Magos se postraron y adoraron, y,
finalmente, el mismo Dios a quien los apóstoles adoraban
en Galilea como la Escritura dice "(Decreto de la Santísima
Eucaristía, 5).
Al celebrar la Navidad y la fiesta de la Epifanía del
Señor, nosotros también debemos ser conscientes de
nuestro deber de adorar a nuestro Señor a través de la
oración, la adoración y las buenas obras abnegados. San
Gregorio Nacianceno (. D 389) predicó: "Permanezcamos
en la adoración, y para él, que, con el fin de salvarnos, se

The Magi and Their Three Gifts
St. Matthew recorded that the Magi brought
three gifts, each also having a prophetic meaning:
gold, the gift for a king; frankincense, the gift for a
priest; and myrrh — a burial ointment, a gift for one
who would die. St. Irenaeus (d. 202) in his Adversus
haereses offered the following interpretation for the
gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh respectively:
King, God and Suffering Redeemer as well as virtue,
prayer and suffering.
Even though some mystery remains to the
identity of the Magi, the Church respects their act of
worship: The Council of Trent, when underscoring
the reverence that must be given to the Holy Eucharist, decreed, "The faithful of Christ venerate this
most holy sacrament with the worship of latria which
is due to the true God.... For in this sacrament we
believe that the same God is present whom the eternal Father brought into the world, saying of Him,
'Let all God's angels worship Him.' It is the same
God whom the Magi fell down and worshiped, and
finally, the same God whom the apostles adored in
Galilee as Scripture says" (Decree on the Most Holy
Eucharist, 5).
As we celebrate Christmas and the Feast of
the Epiphany, we too must be mindful of our duty to
adore our Lord through prayer, worship and selfsacrificing good works. St. Gregory Nazianzen (d.
389) preached, "Let us remain on in adoration; and to
Him, who, in order to save us, humbled Himself to
such a degree of poverty as to receive our body, let
us offer not only incense, gold and myrrh..., but also
spiritual gifts, more sublime than those which can be
seen with the eyes" (Oratio, 19).
