Principal’s Message
The gifts are wrapped, the halls are decked, and the stockings are
hung with care. Now we all anxiously await the arrival of
Christmas. I have said it time and time again, but it amazes me how
fast the year is going. I think it is because the staff and students
have been hard at work to make this a wonderful year. Just more
proof that time flies when you're having fun and working with great
kids and adults.
As I am writing this, I can hear the hustle and bustle of our students
and staff getting ready for our annual Christmas concert. This is an event I treasure, and
I am very proud of the hard work that the staff and the students put into organizing such
an event. I would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff who has once again
helped to make this year’s event a success.
Another event I am very proud of and feel honoured to be a part of is Christmas dinner. I
am always amazed to see our high school students interacting with the members of our
community.
On a personal note, my family and I would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a
Happy New Year. Have a safe Christmas break, and I will see you all back at school on
January 5.

Senior Boys Volleyball
The Senior Boys Volleyball
Team had a successful
volleyball season. The boys
worked hard and played
harder all season long.
This year, we travelled to
a tournament in Wadena
and to Maidstone for Mega
Volley. At Maidstone, the
boys played extremely well
against all of the teams.
Even though they were
tired, they continued to
push through. We played
our playoff games in
Tisdale, and we received a
bye to Regionals in
Annaheim. Next season
will be great! Thanks for a
great season, and both
Kelsey and I look forward
to next year!

Junior Girls Volleyball
The Junior Girls Volleyball Team
had a great season this year, and I
really enjoyed my time coaching.
The girls worked hard at building
their skills and working together as
a team. We did get the opportunity
to play in a tournament in Melfort
in September, and the girls played
very well! I would like to thank the
girls for playing their best and
coming to practice, Chloe
LaRochelle for volunteering her
time to help coach, and the parents
for driving and cheering us on.
Overall we had a great season, and
I look forward to next year!

Senior Girls Volleyball
The 2014 Senior Girls Volleyball Team had
another fun and successful season. This year we
had the awesome Mrs. Alisha Leblanc join the
coaching team. She brought a lot of inspiration,
skills instruction, and a great positive attitude
to the team! Each athlete is unique and brings
her own skills to the team. Together, their onand-off-the court dynamics at practices and
games improved throughout the season.
This year, we had three new grade 10 additions
to the team: Chloe, Nicole, and Celeste. Each of
these girls took the season by the horns and
improved in their skills, communication, and
technical abilities on the court. The teammates
appreciated their wittiness, singing abilities,
and “loudness” off the court.
Our grade 11s this year—Emma and Hayley
—have shown vast improvement from when
they were rookies and always keep us entertained and guessing. We look forward to seeing
what they have in store for us next year.
This year our grade 12s—Margo, Amy, and Mallory—showed leadership by sharing the position of captain. As athletes, they all worked hard gave and gave their best every time they
were on the court, inspiring the coaching team, their teammates, and the fans. They will be
greatly missed by both coaches and their teammates. We wish them all the best in the next
chapter of their lives, and we hope they know there will always be a spot on the bench for
them when they’re home to help provide support and motivation.
We had a great season with some ups and downs, but won our place to attend Regionals. At
Regionals, we had some brilliant moments of athleticism for which each player should be
proud!
We’d like to thank our “support” team: the parents, the fans, and the workers at each of our
games and tournaments! Truly, they are the best and can always be relied on to provide
rides, linesmen, scorekeepers, and support to the coaching staff when needed!
On behalf of the coaching staff, we’d like to thank the players for an awesome season. We
appreciated and always looked forward to seeing their smiling faces at our 7:00 a.m.
practices three days a week. They kept us guessing and “in-the-know” all season, and for
that, we are truly grateful. Each girl on the team has a special place in our hearts, and we
look forward to another exciting year in 2015!
Cheers,
Coach Faye and Coach Leblanc

Elementary Christmas Concert
'Twas the night before Christmas and
all through the house, not a creature
was stirring, not even a...wait a
minute! The mice are stirring and are
eating everything in sight! The elves
are in a panic, and Santa and Mrs.
Claus are upset. Will Christmas be
cancelled? Well, the audience at the
Elementary Christmas Concert, held
December 17, found out.
Kindergarten—Grade 6 students
presented the delightful holiday
musical “The Mice Before
Christmas” by Donna Amorosia
and Lori Weidemann. The musical
was about a group of mice that
invade Santa’s workshop and
wreck havoc with the toys and
presents but turn out to be the
“good guys” in the end.
Thank you to Mrs. Curtis for
directing the production;
Mme Holdstock for coordinating
the lights; Ms. Delorme for
coordinating the music; Grade 4, 5,
6 students for designing and making the costumes, props, and backdrop; Mrs. Ralph, Mrs.
Munson, and Ms. Hidlebaugh, our educational associates, for assisting with every part of the
production; Mrs. Thesen for making the programs; and our custodians, Mrs. Gray and Mrs.
Barney, for cleaning up after all of the messy creations.

SRC Ugly Christmas Sweater Day
Research shows that our food environments
influence the way we eat. Childhood is a time
to teach enjoyment of a variety of nutritious foods,
to develop good eating habits, and to establish
a healthy relationship with food.
What is a food environment?
Nutritious food choices support healthy
growth and development of children!
• From where you are standing, take a look around. What do you see for food choices?
The food choices that you have access to in one place make up your food environment.
• Try this activity in a variety of places where you live, learn, work or play. What food
choices are easily accessible by you? By your children? Would you consider them to
be nutritious choices?
Make a goal to have nutritious foods more available and less nutritious foods less available!
Tips to supporting healthy food environments:
□ As a parent or leader, it is your role to choose ‘what’ is available. When grocery
shopping, leave the less nutritious choice in the store! More nutritious choices will then
be the easy choices if they are more accessible in an environment.
□ It is also your role to choose ‘when’ and ‘where’ nutritious food choices are
available. Host family-based meals around the kitchen table at regular meal times.
Remove distractions such as cell phones, T.V. and computers.
□ Make snacks count! While snacks are important energy boosters between meals, they
are often highly processed and low in nutrients. Have fresh vegetables and fruit washed
and cut into snack size portions for easy healthy choices on the run.
□ Water is our best thirst quencher! Have water easily available throughout the
day.
